Child scientists to participate in state level meet

A total of eight students among many participants from six blocks of Aryabhatta Science centre of Udalguri district have been selected today for the state level science based competitions to be held at the Regional Science Centre, Khanapara to be organised by ASTEC (Assam Science Technology & Environment Council,Guwahati) In a district level science based competitions organized by the Udalguri Aryabhatta Science Centre under the Assam Science and Technology and Environment Council (ASTEC) held at Udalguri Girls’ HS schoolon October 25 which was organized by the Udalguri district administration.The district level science based competitions were inaugurated by NC Boro, inspector of schools of Udalguri district circle where Sadhana Hojai,Deputy Commissioner,Udalguri district appealed to the students to avail the facilities given to them for the promotion of science in their respective areas. She also appealed to the parents and teachers to inspire the children so that they could explore their talents in science in the respective field of work.The programme on the occasion was anchored by Jayanta Kumar Das, district coordinator of Aryabhatta Science Centre for Udalguri district.The Aryabhatta Science Centre selected eight talented students in three disciplines which are as follows : Science Model competition where Jyotirmoy Baruah and Smita Boro of Sankardev Sishu Vidya Niketan of Orang under Mazbat block ranked first group and Junmoni Khakhlary and Khanjan Baruah of Kalaigaon HS School under Kalaigaon block ranked second group. In the extempore speech competition Subhalaxmi Devi of Ramswaroop Agarwalla Memorial English School under Udalguri block stood first and Ishita Tibrewala of Sanred Heart English school of Rowta under Rowta block stood second and in the science based poster drawing competition, Satish Gupta of Lokpriya Bordoloi Public School of Kalaigaon and Suman Deka of Arunodoy Academy of Tangla under Kalaigaon block stood first and second respectively. All the selected students will participate in the state level science based competition of Aryabhatta Science Centre under the ASTEC at the Regional Science Centre in Guwahati on November 4 next.It is to be noted that the Aryabhata Science Centre of Udalguri district felicitated Bhupali Barman, a child scientist and a student of Ramswaroop Agarwalla Memorial English School of Udalguri with a phulam gamocha for her eleventh rank in the national level seminar on science held in Mumbai very recently.Jadabendra Roy,Associate Professor,Dept. of Chemistry and Naba Kumar Baishya,Associate Professor,Dept of Physics,Udalguri College attended as judges for science models while Rewati Raman sapkata and Anjali Pathank attended as judges for science based extempore speech competition.

In a very tragic and shocking incident six endangered species of Himalayan vultures died and two critically injured in Udmari village near Kalaigaon in Darrang district on March 16 due to poisoning.The incident has caused sensation in the district and everybody has condemned the poisoning of the innocent vultures. Encounter took place  between a group of NDFB(S) militant and a police party comprising SP and  Addl.S.P. Udalguri, OC, Mazbat PS, IPS (Proby) and other police personnel in Hatipota village under Mazbat PS last night on March 15. In a joint operation by police and 168 Field Regiment of Army, one dreaded NDFB (S) cadre B. Shumla has been killed in Asrabari under Mazbat Police Station this morning on March 15.
