Udalguri Police launch crackdown on extortionists
Udalguri Police have reportedly launched a crackdown in the district against rampant "extortion by NDFB (S) cadres based on numerous complaints by buisiness man,VCDC chairman,contractors. Extortion notes are being served to reputed personalities which gave gripped a sense of fear and insecurity among the people.
When contacted, police sources said that they have launched a crackdown on extortionist groups in the district and as a follow up of their operation, a police team apprehended one at Hahini gaon under Tangla PS on Thursday , few kilometers away from Tangla town. Police said two extortionist came on bike to collect the amount demanded to Bhutiachang VCDC chairman of Udalguri while one fled away one of the accused fired at the police following which the police on fired one shot which hit on the waist of the cadre while trying to runaway. The injured was later taken to Tangla CHC hospital and referred to GMCH for treatment, police said.
Reportedly the accused NDFB (S) cadre has been identified as one Subun Basumatari (22) alias Geraila S/O Ajay Basumatari a inhabitant of Phaisia village under Harisinga PS of Udalguri. A 7.65mm pistol, three rounds of live ammunition and a mobile handset were recovered from his possesion.
Meanwhile a case has been registered at Panery PS vide 67/16 under various sections of IPC.
