Rail blockade for AIIMS demand
The Central Assam AIIMS Demand Committee ( CAADC ), an umbrella organisation of several organisations demanding for AIIMS in Central Assam, has announced a three hours rail blockade from 9 a.m on Friday next at Chaparmukh in support of its demand for setting up of the proposed AIIMS like institution in Assam at Raha. The Committee has also decided to resume its protest movement stronger in the coming days.
Speaking with this correspondent on Tuesday, a source in the Central Assam AIIMS Demand Committee said, “ The state government incorporated some irrelevant points on the draft that would be send to the central government which we unanimously opposed. Since then the state government showed total negligence remaining silent on the draft issue and had stopped any further correspondence with us. This has disappointed us all and due to this attitude of the state government we are compelled to go for the Rail blockade programme."
It might be mentioned here that the Central Assam AIIMS Demand Committee put on hold its all agitational programmes coming to a resolution on July 19 after a discussion with the Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal that the government will prepare a draft with full participation of the leaders of the AIIMS Demand Committees, highlighting their concerns and proposals and send a letter to the Central government to do the needful. But the AIIMS Demand Committee alleged that the state government tried to divert the issue adopting names of some new places demanding setting up of AIIMS in the draft other than Raha.

RAHA: A dreaded dacoit died and another sustained serious injury when a gang war took place in Nagaon on Sunday. The incident took place at Nagabandha in the wee hours where a group of armed dacoits were travelling on a vehicle. As they reached Juria suddenly they spotted another gang and started gun firing at each other. Identified as Jonab Ali, an infamous died on the spot while another sustained serious injury who is fighting to survive at the hospital. Then both the groups vanished from the spot. NAGAON: A team of chief minister’s anti corruption and vigilance cell is raiding Rockybul Hussain’s properties in Samoguri, Amoni and Puroni Gudam areas on Friday a day after the enquiry in a number of spots in Nagaon town to ascertain the veracity of the allegations of having illegal properties. RAHA: Two minor boys met watery grave when the duo along with a few others were going to bath in a river in Nagaon district on Saturday. The incident took place in Chapormukh area at around 11.30 in the morning as they were bathing on the river Kopili. Suddenly, the river water current washed Akash Rai and Mukti Prasad Bora—both studying in Hansora School who failed to bail out of the strong undercurrent. Local residents in large number along with SDRF personnel arrived in the spot and fished out the bodies leaving a pall of gloom in the area.

RAHA: In a stepped up crackdown across the state against the illegal coal traders, the police in Raha intercepted five coal truck on Tuesday. Acting on a tip off the policeman on the National Highway No 37 seized the five trucks loaded with coal early in the morning. The drivers, who have been detained, confessed to have brought the huge consignment to Guwahati from Jowai in Meghalaya. Interrogation is going on. Despite restrictions on trade and transportation, a section of traders keep dealing in coal these days.
RAHA: A biker died when he lost control over his vehicle before it rammed into the divider on the National Highway No 37 in Raha on Wednesday.The mishap took place at Phulguri in the afternoon when Amarjyoti Deka, a resident of Kasomari was riding on his two wheeler which hit the divider.
