Two prominent figures in the political area of Nagaland seems to have fetched no less shame to the restive north eastern state. Till the other day, the Nagas lacked a proper word in the dictionary to heap praise on Dr TR Zeliang and Neiphu Rio. The NPF stalwarts enjoyed no less favour from the common people who defied security barricade to shake their hands with the duo.
But both of them have utterly disappointed the simple Naga people. Both them have been facing unprecedented charges. Rio, the former Chief Minister have mired in controversy over his educational certificate. Caught in a criminal charge, the former NPF stalwart has been fighting a legal fight in the court of law when a non governmental organization challenged his degree before the court. According to allegations, Rio had not cleared his degree with honours in political science from Kohima College under North East Hills University. But he was believed to have enclosed a fake certificate along with his affidavits before the Election Commission when he contested the last assembly polls. Now it is for the court to decide on his fate.
The charge against Dr TR Zeliang is not different. He was believed to have produced a fake degree certificate which is under judicial scrutiny.
Can anybody trust on these leaders? What the people of Nagaland get from these leaders who resort to false degree for personal pelf and power? That too in a state where the people have been fighting for self determination and where two or three armed groups have been knocking at the doors in New Delhi for a greater Nagalim?
