The 45th National Safety Week, observed at Nagaon Paper Mill (NPM), Kagajnagar on 4-11 March witnessed a series of activities including administering of safety pledges, wearing of safety badges by the employees, safety essay writing competitions, display of safety banner & posters with discussions over various industrial safety related issues.
The celebration kicked off with the hoisting of safety-day flag by Paban Kumar Bhuyan, chief executive/consultant (technical) of the NPM, a unit of Hindustan Paper Corporation Limited on 4 March 2016. It was followed by the pledge taking ceremony administered in Hindi, Assamese and English by Ashok Kr Roy, acting general manager (works) in presence of employees representatives Ananda Bordoloi and Atul Mahanta.
The winners of various competitions were honoured by the high level NPM officials including GK Choudhury, inspector of factories, Nagaon. Karan Konwar, a contract worker for Das electrical working under the electrical department was appreciated for his recent brave works to protect human life in a critical situation.
The concluding meeting was addressed Rajesh Kr Jha, Dhiren Borah, Lalit Raj, Nilakshi Konwar, JN Gogoi with others where NPM safety manager Dwijen Thakuria welcomed the guests and explained the importance of the safety related observations in the industrial avenues.
Guwahati : In a first, AASU leadership has reined in Samujjal Bhattacharya saying that the yet to be inducted adviser is not competent to make any statement on behalf of the state's influential student body.
AASU general secretary Sankarjyoti Baruah said that the executive body has yet to confirm his assignment.

A Dimapur-Guwahati bus has, on Saturday, met with an accident at Golaghat.
As per reports the bus while heading to Dimapur accidentally veered off the main road in the wee hours at Garampani. Fortunately, all passengers were safely rescued.
The driver and the handiman of the bus ran away after the accident, sources said.
The United Liberation Front of Assam(Independent) Assam has claimed the responsibility of the blast that occurred at upper Assam town of Digboi, near an army camp.

In a tragic accident, six migrant workers from Assam, reportedly, died in a forest area in Meghalaya after falling into a pit. The NDTV has reported that the accident occured in East Jayantia Hills.

Rajya Sabha MP Ajit Kumar Bhuyan, on Thursday claimed that the Congress-AIUDF grand alliance will win 88 seats in the upcoming Assam assembly elections.

Badarpur: In a shocking incident, at least 15 passengers were injured after the Sealdah-Kanchanjunga Express met with an accident at the Badarpur railway station. Police said that among the injured, five of the passengers were critically injured and have been rushed to Railway Hospital. Unfortunately among the gravely injured are a pregnant woman and a child.
