Mock drill in Kokrajhar

An emergency response mock drill was conducted by the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) at Habrubari in Kokrajhar district on Friday,which was a part of offsite emergency mock on the IOCL Guwahati-Siliguri underground pipeline to test the preparedness of its emergency personnel.

A live fire fighting exercise was carried out alongside the drill by Fire and Rescue Services personnel. The mock drill started with hooting of the emergency siren where all official and IOCL employees were seen rushing to the spot and they combated the fire. The fire combat team also joined and the fire was brought under control after 40-minutes. The clear signal and siren was blown. Thereafter, the combating teams, rescue team and auxiliary teams reported to Chief Emergency Controller cum location in-charge and reported that there were no causalities.

The emergency team, made a demonstration on pipeline leak arrest, fitting of leak clamp and usage of extinguishers such as dry chemical powder during the drill. A fire control demonstration was also carried out by Fire and Rescue Services personnel.

Madhav Prasad Sarma,Kokrajhar Deputy Commissioner stressing the importance of coordination between the district administrations, Fire and Rescue Services, local village administrations and IOCL in handling emergency situations said that it will create awareness among common citizens while bringing safe and safety.

Ajit Mohan Das, operation Manager of IOCL,other senior officials were  also present in the programme.

BJP leader quits

Former president of Kokrajhar district unit of Bharatiya Janata Party, Binati Bala Basumatary resigned from her party membership on Monday.  Basumatary submitted her resignation letter to the state party president citating personal reason . She was Kokrajhar district BJP president for 2011-2015, who had gained strength of the party through her strong leadership in the district. Basumatary's quit of the party ahead assembly election would draw a set back party strength in the Kokrajhar. Basumatary is likely to join ruling BPF party within couple of days, said a close aid of Binati. 

NDFNB(S) ultras held

Three cadres of the NDFB(S) were arrested by security forces in a joint operation belonging to police and army at Hakata village under Barama PS in Baksa district on Sunday. The cadres were identified as Jwangsar Boro @ KK, Mohit Mushahary and Pramod Ramchiary @ Khankari @Raja   of Baksa district. They were actively involved in extortion, arms smuggling and other nefarious and anti national activities and Adivasi carnage in December(2014) and had run away and sheltered themselves in Chennai, till their return.
