ULFA-I uses guerrilla tactic only for self defence and not for waging any waragainstIndia, said Dr Abhizeet Asom.
In a message sent to media on the Protest Day on Saturday, the ULFA-I chairman said that the outfit has been struggling to save the rights of the indigenous people of Assam.
According to the elusive ULFA-I leader, the "immature" studentleaders who spearheaded the Assam Agitation surrendered before New Delhi when they signed an accord to deport Bangladeshi aliens in 1985 with Rajiv Gandhi.
"However, India in contrast is seeking military solution to our legitimate struggle to establish our birthright as enshrined in international statues and our indigenous masses are responding to the call of the hour to own what belong to them," said the ULFA supremo.
He further spoke of the India, Bangladesh land deal with reference to the history of East Pakistan. The outfit also said that the move to give refugee status to the non-Muslim Bangladeshis are strange.
Koliabor Congress candidate Gaurav Gogoi has dared CMSS to challenge his affidavits before the Election Commission.Gogoi’s sharp reaction came a day after the student body alleged that the chief minister’s son has not provided the real assets owned by him.Talking to reporters in Sarupathar, Gogoi said any organization is free to lodge any complaint against him.CMSS on Saturday lodged a complaint before the election commission that in his affidavit, Gogoi has not provided all particulars on his assets.

Poachers have killed yet another rhino in Kaziranga to take away its horn.The hornless carcass was found in Kohora range of the national park on Sunday morning.Forest guard spotted the carcass hours after two poachers were killed in a heavy gunbattle in the same range on Saturday evening.With this, the number of rhinos killed in poaching has gone up to 15. This week alone, the poachers have killed two rhinos in the world heritage site.
At least 15 girls from a Dibrugarh university hostel have been undergoing treatment of food poisoning after they had their lunch on Saturday evening.According to information, initially one of them fell ill and complained of stomach ache after she took lunch in the evening. Her condition is believed to have been serious even after she was shifted to the Assam Medical College Hospital.Hours after it, at least 15 girls complained of stomach ache and vomiting one after another forcing the authorities to rush them to the hospital. The reason is yet to be ascertained.
AGP steering committee failed to take any clear cut decision to withdraw the withdrawal of suspension against Padma Hazarika on Saturday.Chaired by president Prafulla Kumar Mahanta, the meeting took place for several hours in the evening. Police have arrested three persons from a vehicle bound for Meghalaya on Saturday.According to information, the trio were arrested during a stepped up checking at the National Highway in Chayagaon in the evening.Police further seized a huge amount of Rs 12 lakh from the vehicle which came from Guwahati and was on the way to Meghalaya.
Two dreaded rhino poachers were killed at a fierce gun battle with forest guards in Kaziranga on Saturday.The encounter took place at around 6 in the evening at Aarimora forest camp in Kohora range.The poachers were believed to have been killed on the spot during the gun battle that lasted for nearly one hours.Forest guards further claimed to have recovered a rhino horn from the encounter spot.Notably, despite round the clock vigil, poachers have been striking in the national park killing over 15 rhinos during the last three months.

Amid allegations of secret poll pact between Congress and AIUDF, chief minister Tarun Gogoi severally criticized Badaruddin Ajaml saying that the AIUDF president is not concerned with the issues confronting the people.Addressing a huge poll rally in Dhubri on Saturday, Gogoi called Ajmal an imported personality and that the scent of his perfume is momentary.He said that only Congress would be able to deliver the goods.
