ULFA-I uses guerrilla tactic only for self defence and not for waging any war against India, said Dr Abhizeet Asom.

In a message sent to media on the Protest Day on Saturday, the ULFA-I chairman said that the outfit has been struggling to save the rights of the indigenous people of Assam.

According to the elusive ULFA-I leader, the "immature" student leaders who spearheaded the Assam Agitation surrendered before New Delhi when they signed an accord to deport Bangladeshi aliens in 1985 with Rajiv Gandhi.

"However, India in contrast is seeking military solution to our legitimate struggle to establish our birthright as enshrined in international statues and our indigenous masses are responding to the call of the hour to own what belong to them," said the ULFA supremo.

He further spoke of the India, Bangladesh land deal with reference to the history of East Pakistan. The outfit also said that the move to give refugee status to the non-Muslim Bangladeshis are strange.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Saturday predicted stool defeat for BJP in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls in Assam.Addressing a huge rally in presence of prime minister Dr Mamnohan Singh in Sivasagar, Gogoi said that the voters have already decided not to support BJP in view of the wonderful performance of Congress government in Dispur and NDA government in Delhi.He said that the ruling party will get more than 10 seats in the polls this time adding that the voters are intelligent and aware of the parties and their performances.

Uneasy calm in Chirang

Sensation prevails in Chirang after a tribal girl was rapped and killed by miscreants on Friday. The incident took place at Boldi gaon near Amguri along the Indo-Bhutan border.According to information, the incident took place in the afternoon when a gang of seven miscreants picked up the girl who was fishing at the Makra river along with three others.Then she was dragged into the nearby jungle. Some of them also tried to pick up the two others. But they managed to escape from the spot.The girl was believed to have been repeatedly rapped before being murdered. PM holds poll rally in Sivasagar

Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh is on a day long visit to Sivasagar on Saturday to campaign for Bijoy Krishna Handique and Pawan Singh Ghatowar who are contesting from Jorhat and Dibrugarh respectively in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.Dr Singh arrived in Khumtai near Mahmora at 11-30 in the morning to be received by Chief minister Tarun Gogoi along with APCC president Bhubneswar Kalita.Dr Singh, who represents Assam in Parliament is visiting the state for the last as prime minister.   

ULFA behind Sonari shoot out!

The shoot out in Sonari on Friday is believed to be handiwork of ULFA where the militants attacked a local trader for refusing to pay ransom.According to information, the militants served him extortion notice and threatened him of dire consequences.Identified as Golap Lunawat, the local trader in Sonari was killed hours after miscreants sprayed several rounds of bullets on his womb on Friday evening.He breathed his last at 8-30 in the evening two hours after he was rushed to the Aditya Hospital.

Girl raped and murdered in Chirang

In yet another bizarre incident that sends shockwaves across the state, a tribal girl was raped and then murdered in Chirang district.The incident took place on Friday in Amguri along the Indo-Bhutan border where miscreants picked up the girl who went for fishing along with five other girls.Her body was recovered from a jungle nearby on Saturday morning. The body bore several injury marks. Details are awaited.        

Impasse on Padma Hazarika continues

Huge gathering in Mahmora

Defying an inclement weather people are thronging in thousands in Mahmora to attend Dr Manmohan Singh’s poll rally on Saturday.Dr Singh, who represents Assam in Parliament is expected to arrive in Dibrugarh at 11 in the morning. Then he would straightly leave for Mahmora in Sivasagar to campaign for Jorhat candidate Bijoy Krishna Handique.  Chief minister Tarun Gogoi along with APCC president Bhubneswar Kalita and Union minister Pawan Singh Ghatowar are scheduled to attend the huge rally.
