Vasundhara entrepreneur award

The 2nd Vasundhara NE Woman Entrepreneur will be conferred on September 19 at Shillong. instituted by Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati, the wvent will see eight exceptionally talented women entrepreneurs from eight states of Northeast India being awarded in the state winners category and one among them being crowned with the coveted award for the year 2013-14.

M. Rajeshwar Rao, Chief General Manager, Financial Markets Operation Department, Reserve Bank of India, Mumbai will grace the occasion as Chief Guest besides a host of dignitaries who will grace the occasion as distinguished guests.

Instituted in 2014 by the Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati, it has emerged as a prestigious and one of a kind award and felicitation program covering the eight states of entire NE region. The award given to exceptional woman entrepreneurs with unique business ventures having a strong social commitment are selected by a selection panel constituted with eminent personalities from different sector related with entrepreneurship and business.

The state winners as has been declared by the selection panel for the  Vasundhara  NE Woman Entrepreneur of the year (2013-14) award are Lata Lepcha from Sikkim, Toko Likha Yaram from Arunachal Pradesh, T. Jemima Achumi from Nagaland, Moiregthem Muktamani Devi from Manipur, Lalhimpuii Hmar from Mizoram, Sukla Rani Debbarma from Tripura, Queency Thangkhiew from Meghalaya and Kanta Dey from Assam.

All of these women selected for the award have displayed rare sense of entrepreneurship and uniqueness in their idea and vision. For instance, while Smti T. Jemima Achumi of Nagaland has set up a fully automatic meat processing center with imported machineries from Germany and France, Toko Likha Yaram of Arunachal Pradesh has set up a cold storage at Banderdewa. Likewise Moiregthem Muktamani Devi of Manipur produces woolen knitted shoes and supplies to Indian army and also exports to countries such as UK, Australia and Korea. Their enterprises are exemplary in the otherwise male dominated sector of business and industry for which they have been identified and are being honoured, said Asomee Dutta Baruah, General Secretary of Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati.

The winner will walks away with a cash award of Rs. 25,000 besides trophy, a citation and a shawl and the eight state winners are being honoured with cash award of Rs. 10,000, a trophy, a citation and a shawl each.

Instituted with the sole objective of identifying the latent talents among the hardworking women entrepreneurs of NE region and recognizing and encouraging them for their endeavor and business achievements, the  award in its second year is being collaborated by the SME Division of the State Bank of India, NE Region and the Indian Institute of Management, Shillong. The award ceremony has also been organized during the IIM, Shillong annual management conclave  Emerge 2015 which will take place on 19th and 20th September, 2015.

CM reiterates flawless NRC

Caught in a barrage of criticism over his recent suggestions to the Centre on NRC, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said that his government is committed to a flawless NRC.In a statement issued to the media on Friday, Gogoi said that his intention is nothing but to ensure that the citizens are included in the updated NRC.The government would extend all possible help and cooperation to it for the preparation of a full-proof NRC for the state, he said. 

Rainwaters wreak havoc in Guwahati

A one hour long heavy downfall wreaks havoc in Guwahati with massive waterlogging disrupting normal life in many areas on Friday.The heavy downfall began at 5 in the evening which lasted till 7 in the evening leaving many place to be submerged in rain waters.The worst hit areas are GS Road where normal traffic movement came to a grinding halt from 7.Chanmari, Ganeshguri, Rajgarh along with many other areas in the city remained submerged for several hours.The massive waterlogging resulted in huge traffic snarl where the vehicles found it quit difficult to get out of the blues.

Girls meet watery grave

Three girls met watery grave when the boat ferrying them capsized on the river Burhi Dihing at Tengakhat on Thursday.The tragic incident took place in the evening when the boat was ferrying 5 people. Local residents rescued two people while three bodied were fished out one hour after the incident.  

Blame it on delay in firefighters

Local residents in Basistha area blamed it all on the delay in the arrival of firefighters for the massive inferno that ravaged properties worth lakhs of rupees on Thursday evening.According to allegations, despite repeated calls the first one fire fighters arrived in the spot only after 45 minutes. But by then the fire took the devastating turn and engulf as many as ten houses.Five more fire tenders arrived 30 minutes later which needed another 15 minutes to be deployed.“Had all the firefighters arrived in the spot within 30 minutes the situation could have been brought under control,” said a section of eye witnesses.Some of the local residents said that the situation was brought under...

Border dispute: Setback for Nagaland

 In a major setback for Nagaland, the Supreme Court on Thursday refused to entertain the plea to adjourn the hearing of the border dispute with Assam. A division bench of the top court comprising Justice T S Thakur and Justice R Banumathi said, “the issue is decade old and we want to make it clear that no further adjournment will be granted." Then the Nagaland government told the court that the advocate general was new and that he needed time to study the deadlock. But the case will figure on September 7.The court had said that the border dispute between Assam and Nagaland could be resolved either by deciding the law suit or by referring it for arbitration. 

Massive inferno in Basistha

A massive inferno reduced properties worth lakhs of rupees to ashes in Basistha area on Thursday forcing the authorities to deploy army to deal with the situation. Originated at a hut, the devastating inferno started spreading in the evening at the Nepalibasti area at a stone’s distance from the police station. The explosion of at least 15 LPG cylinders aggravated the situation where more than ten fire tenders found it quite difficult to bring the situation under control. As many as fifteen people are feared to have sustained injury to be rushed to the GMCH for treatment. Details are awaited.

NRC logjam: Eyes fixed on July 14

Amid an escalating controversy over the inclusion of all voters in the updated NRC, the Supreme Court is all set to review process on July 14.Dispur has written to New Delhi advocating the inclusion of those who are voters by virtue of birth.A top court bench headed by Justice Ranjan Gogoi will review the progress where Dispur’s plea is likely to come up.On the other hand, APW along with some other organizations are expected to go all out against the plea. Now all eyes are fixed on July 14.   

Rockybul courts controversy

A senior cabinet minister courted yet another controversy on Thursday when he strongly advocated the inclusion of outsiders in the NRC who came across from the border for the sake of their lives.He was none other than panchayat and rural development minister Rockybul Hussain who told reporters that those who came across from the border to escape their impending death should find place in the updated National Registrar of Citizens.Hussain’s statement assumes significance amid the hue and cry over the recent decision to move the Centre seeking the inclusion of all people who are voters by virtue of birth.
