Vasundhara entrepreneur award

The 2nd Vasundhara NE Woman Entrepreneur will be conferred on September 19 at Shillong. instituted by Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati, the wvent will see eight exceptionally talented women entrepreneurs from eight states of Northeast India being awarded in the state winners category and one among them being crowned with the coveted award for the year 2013-14.

M. Rajeshwar Rao, Chief General Manager, Financial Markets Operation Department, Reserve Bank of India, Mumbai will grace the occasion as Chief Guest besides a host of dignitaries who will grace the occasion as distinguished guests.

Instituted in 2014 by the Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati, it has emerged as a prestigious and one of a kind award and felicitation program covering the eight states of entire NE region. The award given to exceptional woman entrepreneurs with unique business ventures having a strong social commitment are selected by a selection panel constituted with eminent personalities from different sector related with entrepreneurship and business.

The state winners as has been declared by the selection panel for the  Vasundhara  NE Woman Entrepreneur of the year (2013-14) award are Lata Lepcha from Sikkim, Toko Likha Yaram from Arunachal Pradesh, T. Jemima Achumi from Nagaland, Moiregthem Muktamani Devi from Manipur, Lalhimpuii Hmar from Mizoram, Sukla Rani Debbarma from Tripura, Queency Thangkhiew from Meghalaya and Kanta Dey from Assam.

All of these women selected for the award have displayed rare sense of entrepreneurship and uniqueness in their idea and vision. For instance, while Smti T. Jemima Achumi of Nagaland has set up a fully automatic meat processing center with imported machineries from Germany and France, Toko Likha Yaram of Arunachal Pradesh has set up a cold storage at Banderdewa. Likewise Moiregthem Muktamani Devi of Manipur produces woolen knitted shoes and supplies to Indian army and also exports to countries such as UK, Australia and Korea. Their enterprises are exemplary in the otherwise male dominated sector of business and industry for which they have been identified and are being honoured, said Asomee Dutta Baruah, General Secretary of Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati.

The winner will walks away with a cash award of Rs. 25,000 besides trophy, a citation and a shawl and the eight state winners are being honoured with cash award of Rs. 10,000, a trophy, a citation and a shawl each.

Instituted with the sole objective of identifying the latent talents among the hardworking women entrepreneurs of NE region and recognizing and encouraging them for their endeavor and business achievements, the  award in its second year is being collaborated by the SME Division of the State Bank of India, NE Region and the Indian Institute of Management, Shillong. The award ceremony has also been organized during the IIM, Shillong annual management conclave  Emerge 2015 which will take place on 19th and 20th September, 2015.

CCTV surveillance in press club demanded

Guwahati Press Club has urged the city police commissioner to install closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras at Ambari locality for better surveillance. Bijoy Krishna Handique no more

Bijoy Krishna Handique,  former union minister and Congress leader from Assam died at the Jorhat medical college on Sunday. He was suffering from respiratory ailments and admitted to the hospital Saturday evening. The only son of late Krishna Kanta Handique, the famous scholar and founding Vice Chancellor of the Gauhati University, Handique represented the Jorhat Lok Sabha constituency for six consecutive terms since 1991. Handique held several portfolios in the union government. He was also a member of Rajya Sabha from 1980 to 1985.Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi who visited the Jorhat Medical College on Saturday has led the state in condoling the death of Handique.

Police clueless on child killing

Dima Hasao police are still clueless on the video hall shoot out inident where a child was killed and anohter sustained injury on Tuesday night.  Police suspect the involvement of militants. Untimely death condoled

Sports directorate employees have expressed deep shock at the untimely demise of coordinating officer Haramohan Kalita on Thursday. Kalita died at his own residence in Panjabari at 7-30 in the morning. At a meeting at the office premises, his colleagues deeply condoled the death and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.

No decision yet on PIL against APSC

The Gauhati High Court has yet to finalise the PIL seeking the court’s intervention on the alleged corruption in APSC in the seletion of ACS, APS and allied services. According to soures, scrutiny panel has yet to take any conclusion on the PIL file by Akhil Gogoi and therefore, it is yet to be registered.The PIL sought a CBI probe, mainly on the irregularities of the 2013 examinations and the role of APSC's present Chairman Rakesh Kumar Paul.

Panel to probe APSC corruption

After months of will-he-won’t he, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has announced an inquiry commission to probe the allegations of corruption in the civil services examinations.Official sources told Assam Times that Gogoi has issued order to institute an inquiry panel to be headed by a retired judge who will enquire into APSC-related allegations.The Commission will be constituted under the provisions of the Commission of Inquiry Act.

All out against enchephilitis

Jorhat district is going all out against malaria and enchephilitis after 13 people lost their lives. Official sources claimed to have distributed over 30,000 medicated mosquito nets among the people in the affected areas. These are apart from some health awareness camps.Spraying of DDT and fogging have been stepped up in the affected areas. Blood sample colletion booths are available in the district for early confirmation of the disease.

Simplify NRC process

Its high time for the Supreme Court to simplify the process to update the NRC to ensure that the genuine citizines can smoothly participate in the process. This was more or less of what experts said at a meeting in Guwahati on Wednesday.   Speakers at a meeting organized at the Institute of Social Change and Regional Development (ISCARD) in the city said that the Dispur’s process would disappoint the entire purpose of the exercise if the common people are allowed to face so harassment. The mneeting suggested that the names of all residents of the pre-1971 villages, towns should be included without any documents.
