Vasundhara entrepreneur award

The 2nd Vasundhara NE Woman Entrepreneur will be conferred on September 19 at Shillong. instituted by Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati, the wvent will see eight exceptionally talented women entrepreneurs from eight states of Northeast India being awarded in the state winners category and one among them being crowned with the coveted award for the year 2013-14.

M. Rajeshwar Rao, Chief General Manager, Financial Markets Operation Department, Reserve Bank of India, Mumbai will grace the occasion as Chief Guest besides a host of dignitaries who will grace the occasion as distinguished guests.

Instituted in 2014 by the Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati, it has emerged as a prestigious and one of a kind award and felicitation program covering the eight states of entire NE region. The award given to exceptional woman entrepreneurs with unique business ventures having a strong social commitment are selected by a selection panel constituted with eminent personalities from different sector related with entrepreneurship and business.

The state winners as has been declared by the selection panel for the  Vasundhara  NE Woman Entrepreneur of the year (2013-14) award are Lata Lepcha from Sikkim, Toko Likha Yaram from Arunachal Pradesh, T. Jemima Achumi from Nagaland, Moiregthem Muktamani Devi from Manipur, Lalhimpuii Hmar from Mizoram, Sukla Rani Debbarma from Tripura, Queency Thangkhiew from Meghalaya and Kanta Dey from Assam.

All of these women selected for the award have displayed rare sense of entrepreneurship and uniqueness in their idea and vision. For instance, while Smti T. Jemima Achumi of Nagaland has set up a fully automatic meat processing center with imported machineries from Germany and France, Toko Likha Yaram of Arunachal Pradesh has set up a cold storage at Banderdewa. Likewise Moiregthem Muktamani Devi of Manipur produces woolen knitted shoes and supplies to Indian army and also exports to countries such as UK, Australia and Korea. Their enterprises are exemplary in the otherwise male dominated sector of business and industry for which they have been identified and are being honoured, said Asomee Dutta Baruah, General Secretary of Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati.

The winner will walks away with a cash award of Rs. 25,000 besides trophy, a citation and a shawl and the eight state winners are being honoured with cash award of Rs. 10,000, a trophy, a citation and a shawl each.

Instituted with the sole objective of identifying the latent talents among the hardworking women entrepreneurs of NE region and recognizing and encouraging them for their endeavor and business achievements, the  award in its second year is being collaborated by the SME Division of the State Bank of India, NE Region and the Indian Institute of Management, Shillong. The award ceremony has also been organized during the IIM, Shillong annual management conclave  Emerge 2015 which will take place on 19th and 20th September, 2015.

A prize money debating competition will be held on the topic of "Mutual divisiveness is the prime impediment in securing the future of indigenous people" on January 10, 2016 at Gauhati Commerce College Auditorium, Guwahati. The competition is open for all students from Class XI to those pursuing Post Graduate studies. Many AJYCP workers staged dharna in New Delhi in protest against the Centre's move on refugee status for the non Muslim Bangladeshi immigrants. With banners and festoons in their hands, the students thronged the Jantar Mantar at 11 in the morning and shouted slogans asking the Centre not to proceed with the deal. "Assam will have to bear the burden of lakhs of immigrants if the Centre goes with the decision," said a protester. Another protestor said, "we won't allow the Centre to turn Assam into a dumping ground of Bangladeshi immigrants." Scribes and former colleagues of Dipak Mahanta, who had recently died in a road accident, have organized a commemorative meeting at Guwahati Press Club on 12 December 2015 to pay tributes to the departed soul. Mahanta’s family and close relatives will observe his Adyashraddha same day in their Tezpur residence. Once again the National Green Tribunal gets tougher with the Assam government alleging its failure to deal with the rampant encroachment in Kaziranga. The panel further is unhappy with the commercial establishments on the National Highway No 37. National Ayush Mission and Indian Yoga Culture & Yoga Therapy Centre are going to organize Assam Yoga Mahotsav 2015 in collaboration with Sports Authority of Assam at Deshabhakta Tarun Ram Phukan Indoor Stadium in R. G Barua Sports Complex, Guwahati on December 12-14 December. As a part of this Yoga Mahotsav, Swami Shivananda Saraswati Yoga Prerana Award for the year 2015 will be presented.  Yoga Orientation Programme, Inter-School Group Yoga Competition, Quiz, Extempore Speech and other competitions will be held  during the event. 
There was a bomb blast in the Fancy Bazar area, Guwahati on Saturday at around 3 in the afternoon. According to eye witnesses, the blast source was a 'larger diwali cracker' kept in a dust bin. Police sources says it a minor incident due to some explosive blast. However, a few  people  are injured and admitted in the near by hospital. Details awaited.
