Vasundhara entrepreneur award

The 2nd Vasundhara NE Woman Entrepreneur will be conferred on September 19 at Shillong. instituted by Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati, the wvent will see eight exceptionally talented women entrepreneurs from eight states of Northeast India being awarded in the state winners category and one among them being crowned with the coveted award for the year 2013-14.

M. Rajeshwar Rao, Chief General Manager, Financial Markets Operation Department, Reserve Bank of India, Mumbai will grace the occasion as Chief Guest besides a host of dignitaries who will grace the occasion as distinguished guests.

Instituted in 2014 by the Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati, it has emerged as a prestigious and one of a kind award and felicitation program covering the eight states of entire NE region. The award given to exceptional woman entrepreneurs with unique business ventures having a strong social commitment are selected by a selection panel constituted with eminent personalities from different sector related with entrepreneurship and business.

The state winners as has been declared by the selection panel for the  Vasundhara  NE Woman Entrepreneur of the year (2013-14) award are Lata Lepcha from Sikkim, Toko Likha Yaram from Arunachal Pradesh, T. Jemima Achumi from Nagaland, Moiregthem Muktamani Devi from Manipur, Lalhimpuii Hmar from Mizoram, Sukla Rani Debbarma from Tripura, Queency Thangkhiew from Meghalaya and Kanta Dey from Assam.

All of these women selected for the award have displayed rare sense of entrepreneurship and uniqueness in their idea and vision. For instance, while Smti T. Jemima Achumi of Nagaland has set up a fully automatic meat processing center with imported machineries from Germany and France, Toko Likha Yaram of Arunachal Pradesh has set up a cold storage at Banderdewa. Likewise Moiregthem Muktamani Devi of Manipur produces woolen knitted shoes and supplies to Indian army and also exports to countries such as UK, Australia and Korea. Their enterprises are exemplary in the otherwise male dominated sector of business and industry for which they have been identified and are being honoured, said Asomee Dutta Baruah, General Secretary of Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati.

The winner will walks away with a cash award of Rs. 25,000 besides trophy, a citation and a shawl and the eight state winners are being honoured with cash award of Rs. 10,000, a trophy, a citation and a shawl each.

Instituted with the sole objective of identifying the latent talents among the hardworking women entrepreneurs of NE region and recognizing and encouraging them for their endeavor and business achievements, the  award in its second year is being collaborated by the SME Division of the State Bank of India, NE Region and the Indian Institute of Management, Shillong. The award ceremony has also been organized during the IIM, Shillong annual management conclave  Emerge 2015 which will take place on 19th and 20th September, 2015.

The Supreme Court on Friday refused to accept the bail plea of Matang Sinh saying that the Union minister is known for his contact. A division bench of the top court consisting of Justice T S Thakur and V Gopala Gowda said that there was no ground for Sinh to get bail at this stage where the crucial investigations have yet to be completed. The refusal of the division bench forced Sinh's counsel Harin Raval to withdraw the petition. The second Saraighat Film Festival, organised by North East Youth Foundation (NEYF) and supported by North East Dialogue Forum (NEDF), concluded in Guwahati on Monday. Fuel for Fire is  short film with a story about conservation of water and livelihood pattern of rural communities near Gerukamukh, in Dhemaji. The film is about wastage of water. The crew made a field study upon which, it was discovered that people living in nearby areas of Gerukamukh hill collect drinking water from unsafe sources that has high potential to cause hazard. The team decided to document the practice and link it up with water wastages. Jude Rangku T Sangma, the BDO from Chokpot block in Garo Hills area of Meghalaya released by GNLA near Allagre and reached home on Tuesday morning. Sangma was kidnapped on October 27 by GNLA. One ‘over ground’ of GNLA posted news about the BDO's kidnapping as well as release on his Facebook account.
