The Assam State Human Rights Commission has asked the government to probe the recent police firing in Raha where a local protester was killed.
A division bench of the panel comprising Dr Justice AH Saikia and Tarun Phookan issued notice to the Chief Secretary to get the probe done by an officer of the rank of secretary and to submit the findings within the next 30 days.
A local protestor Mintu Deori was killed and several others sustained serious injury when police opened fire on a group of protestors at Raha who tried to enforce a bandh on July 16 demanding the proposed AIIMS in the area.
