ADBU convocation to focus on graduates

Going against the hallowed tradition of a convocation address, Assam Don Bosco University will focus its attention and celebration on its graduating students, especially the outstanding ones who will bag the Chancellor’s and Vice-Chancellor’s medals as well as the gold medalists from each department.

The Governor of Assam and Visitor to the University Shri Padmanabha Balakrishna Acharya will deliver presidential address and the Chief Minister of Assam Shri Tarun Gogoi will be the chief guest on the occasion.

In a communiqué announcing the fourth annual convocation to be held on Thursday, 3rd September 2015, at 4.00 pm at the Azara Campus, Vice Chancellor Dr Stephen Mavely listed three unique features of this year’s convocation.

They include a) the first group of 5 Doctoral Candidates from the university; b) 180 graduates from DBU Global - the distance education wing of the University which has the first batch of graduates from several countries, and c) most of the graduating students have signed up to join the Alumni Association indicative of their attachment to the University.

Degrees will be conferred on 535 students of which 187 students will receive bachelor’s degree in Engineering & Technology, 27 M.Tech, 58 MCA, 52 MSW, 140 MBA, 10 MA Human Rights degrees and the first batch of 2 MA in Educational Leadership, and 7 MSc Psychology.

Medals under various categories will be awarded to 13 outstanding graduates with the highest Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA 8 or more) in each of 13 programmes. 

The Chancellor’s medal for standing first across the degrees and two Vice Chancellor’s medals for outstanding contribution to campus life will also be awarded on the occasion.

Several commemorative articles emblazoned with the university logo will be available for purchase from counters on campus.

Every graduating participant at the convocation will get a specially prepared scarf made to mark the occasion.

Established in 2008 as the first state university of Assam, ADBU is managed by the Don Bosco Society which has 52 institutes of higher education as well as 125 institutes for Technical and Vocational Training in India

Spread out in 132 countries, Don Bosco Society worldwide imparts learning to some 15 million young people, especially belonging to the marginalized in society.

Study fare helps hill students make up lost days

Darjeeling — A college in the hills which lost 104 days due to Gorkhaland agitation (June-September 2017) held 3-day study fare as immediate preparation for the upcoming send-up test in preparation for April-May university exams. In a keenly contested environmental energy efficiency project presentation a college in the Darjeeling hills is among four selected out of 22 applicants for the Residential Environments Project (known as RESIDE).
