The power former minister in the Tarun Gogoi cabinet formally joined the saffron party after his initial meeting with BJP president Amit Shah in New Delhi on Sunday.

Giving a new twist to the ongoing Rajya Sabha poll on Friday, AIUDF has informed that its legislator Ataur Rahman Majarbhuyan will be available in Guwahati to cast his vote.AIUDF leaders told Assam Times that the legislator from Katigarh who is on the way to Mumbai from Abu Dhabi is arriving in the city in the afternoon.His vote is most crucial to help Opposition consensus candidate Haidor Hussain win. Majarbhuyan told his PA over telephone on Thursday that he won’t be able to cast his vote in time. This was what gave Congress and BPF a sigh of relief.

In a major setback for Kamatapur Liberation Organization, security forces claimed to have captured its vice chairman on Thursday.Identified as Tom Adhikary, the top KLO leader was held along the Indo-Bhutan border on Thursday during a combing operation. Adhikary was the mastermind behind a recent blast in New Jalpaiguri where 3 people were killed.During the last couple of months KLO has been unleashing terror in BTAD areas in the form of murder and kidnap and extortion.     Adhikary was captured hardly a week after security forces claimed to have killed its top leader Brindabon Rajbanshi at an encounter in Kokrajhar.   
The Assam Public Service Commission has announced the results of the Assam Civil Service (Combined Competitive) preliminary exanimation it conducted across the state in December.According to the commission, 2, 900 candidates have been qualified for the mains examination out of altogether 42,000 appeared in it.The Mains examination is likely to take place in May or June to select around 350 candidates. Home ministry Joint Secretary Sambhu Singh is on a day long visit to Diphu. Singh on Thursday held talks with different statehood demand committees.On Wednesday, he reviewed the state’s overall law and order situation in the wake of the Chauldhuwa incident where 11 villagers from Bihali were killed by Arunachal Pradesh miscreants.     
Congress legislators will vote Bhubneswar Kalita as their first choice candidate. The second preference would in favour of Dr Sanjay Sinh. Stunned by the disturbing development for the Opposition camp just 12 hours before the Rajya Sabha polls on Friday, AIUDF has decided to expel its legislator Ataur Rahman Majarbhuyan.The decision took a final shape at a meeting of the party legislators on Thursday after it became clear that the MLA now in Abu Dhabai is all set to shy away from voting to help the Congress and BPF win the polls.Party president Badaruddin Ajmal told reporters that he would be expelled from the party. Congress and BPF are likely to win the Rajya Sabbha polls slated for Friday.AIUDF legislator Ataur Rahman Majarbhuyan has confirmed that he won’t be able to vote on Friday. He is scheduled to arrive in Guwahati only in the evening. He has also faxed his message to his personal assistant on Thursday afternoon.But by then the polling is set to be over. His vote was crucial for the Opposition consensus candidate Haidor Hussain. AIUDF leadership was also expecting his arrival on Thursday evening. But that will hardly happen. Now the Congress and BPF camp is upbeat with his absence. 
KMSS president Akhil Gogoi has dared Congress legislators to defeat Dr Sanjoy Sinh in the Rajya Sabha polls on Friday.Participating at a dharna in Dispur on Thursday, Gogoi said that the Congress leaders in Assam should shoulder on the historic responsibility to defeat the outsider.
