The power former minister in the Tarun Gogoi cabinet formally joined the saffron party after his initial meeting with BJP president Amit Shah in New Delhi on Sunday.

Homecoming season for MLAs

Rs 288 cr for NRC

The Centre has sanctioned a huge amount of Rs 288 crore fund to update the NRC within a period of 3 years.This was what the government told the Supreme Court on Monday. The Centre disclosed the figure when the top court was resuming the hearing of a PIL filed by the Assam Public Works.The Supreme Court was satisfied with the preliminary works to update the NRC and fixed the next hearing date on August 4.

AASU warns Mali

Opp letter to EC

The Opposition parties are all set to urge the election commission to ensure a free and fair Rajya Sabha polls in Assam slated for February 7.AGP sources told Assam Times that they will soon sent a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner to send central observers to deal with the horse trading attempt by the ruling party. 

KMSS activists flogged

Several people have been injured when policemen sprang upon a crowd of KMSS protesters in Titabor on Monday.The incident took place in the afternoon when thousands of people were participating at a dharna in front of the Titabor SDO office demanding CBI probe into the alleged scam in the water supply scheme.Protestors told Assam Times that despite repeated request the SDO was reluctant to receive their memorandum. “Policemen on duty started flogging us indiscriminately without any altercation. Akhil detained in Titabor

KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi courted arrest when he was leading a massive protest in front of Titabor SDO office alleging a crore rupee scam in the water supply scheme in the area on Monday.Policemen on duty tried to disperse Gogoi and his protestors by blank firing and lobbing tear gas shell where at least ten protestors have been injured. Later Gogoi was detained by police.

15 kidnapped in Sonitpur

Sonitpur district bordering Arunachal Pradesh is still on the boil. Unidentified miscreants forcibly took away 15 girls and women on Monday morning hardly a week 12 villagers were killed in Chauldhuwa.According to information, miscreants kidnapped these Adivashi and Karbi girls and women at gunpoint from Nomara area while they were working at a stone quarry.Later the miscreants passed the information to the gaonburah and called him to hold a discussion on the issue.
