In a big development in the state’s political arena, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma joined BJP.

The power former minister in the Tarun Gogoi cabinet formally joined the saffron party after his initial meeting with BJP president Amit Shah in New Delhi on Sunday.

In a bizarre move, BPF candidate for the upcoming Rajya Sabha poll Biswajeet Daimary has lodged a complaint against independent candidate Haidor Hussain alleging an attempt to prevent a section of opposition legislators from voting in his favour in the upcoming polls.Daimary called on returning officer Gauranga Prasad Das on Tuesday in Dispur where he filed the complaint demanded cancellation of the opposition consensus candidate’s nomination.The BPF leader on Monday publicly alleged that a Hussian told a section of AGP, BJP and AIUDF MLAs not to vote Daimary.
