Chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Monday made it plain and simple that his government wants 2014 voter list as one of the supportive documents to update the national registrar of citizens.
Responding to the legislators who asked him to clear his position, Gogoi said that the list would be required if the documents earlier announced by the Supreme Court are not available for an indigenous citizen.
He said that his government has already moved the Supreme Court for consideration which has not so far rejected the affidavit.

Mr. Tarun Gogoi is going mad because the assembly election of Assam is approaching. He is such a person who knows only vote bank politics. He is a useless Chief Minister of Assam who has no interest to protect the indigenous communities of Assam rather he is ready to protect the illegal Bangladeshis who entered illegally to our land. Newly elected Asom Sahitya Sabha President Kula Saikia has opposed the Citizenship Amendment Act. Saikia, who retired as Assam DGP in November 2019, said that the Act could not be accepted. Speaking to media he pointed out the people of Assam including the apex literary body of the state have been protesting against the Act since 2018. “This very Act is unacceptable,”he said. The city police arrested an ULFA(I) cadre on last night from the Panjabari locality.
Acting on a tip-off the police nabbed him from near the Srimanta Shankardeva Kalakeshtra at around 9pm.
According to police the cadre has been identified as Bitopan Sonowal of Dibrugarh. He came the city for subversive activities on or before the arrival of PM Narendra Modi, sources revealed.

Guwahati: Senior journalist Pranabjit Doloi has passed away Monday afternoon (around 5.30 pm on 30 December 2019) in a private hospital.
He was suffering from liver related ailments for some time. Started his career in the Sentinel group as a reporter Doloi later worked for satellite news channels including Dy365, Frontier TV, NewsTimeAssam and NewsNetwork. He also earned applauses as a documentary filmmaker.
Doloi (50) left behind wife, only son with other relatives and well-wishers. His last rites will performed tomorrow in North Guwahati and prior to that the city-based media fraternity will pay their last respects to Doloi at Guwahati Press Club by 9.30 am.
