It’s good news for people of Assam. Four candidates from the soil of Assam have cleared Civil Service Examination, 2007. The results of the examinations conducted by the Union Public Service Commission have been declared on Friday. The successful candidates from the state are namely Nabanita Chakrabarty of Guwahati, Rahul Kakati from Sivasagar, Nayanjyoti Nath from Jamuguri in Sonitpur district, Nilav Chandra Sen Gupta from Roha in Nagaon.

An expert committee set up to study the big dams in Arunachal Pradesh prescribed construction of a small dam instead of the 2000 MW hydel dam at Lower Subansiri in Arunachal Pradesh. Security forces arrested three hardcore NDFB rebels on Sunday and seized explosives and arms from thier possession. They were apprehended in a crackdown against the outfit in the state and Nagaland. According to sources, NDFB rebel Sugan Damiary alias Thelka was arrested at Rowta in Udalguri district by the army and a pistol and 500gm of explosives were recovered from him. Acting on a tip off, received from him, the army launched an operation in Rangiya town where two other NDFB cadres Sunil Bora and Ramoni Boro were held. One pistol and three rounds of ammunition were recovered from them. In Nagaland, 14 NDFB ultras were arrested in Mon and Dimapur districts on Saturday.
Assam BJP will take out a massive agitation in December to stop mega dams' construction works in Arunachal Pradesh. Addressing a press conference in Guwahati on Sunday, BJP state president, Ranjit Dutta said these dams will have adverse impact in the downstream areas of Assam. He alleged that Dispur was all out to support the dams. "We are dead opposed to these construction of big dams in Arunachal Pradesh and therefore have decided to launch an intesified agitation throughout the state. A hardcore NDFB cadre was killed at an encounter with security forces in Sonitpur district on Sarturday evening. The encounter took place at around 7 in the evening at Bhorajuli area under Bihali police station along Assam Arunachal Pradesh border. The encounter is still going on. Notably, 2 ULFA militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in Kokrajhar district in the wee hours on Saturday. Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of army and police launched a massive operation at Patoliguri area near Gosaigaon along the Assam-Bengal border, where a group of militants opened fire on the security forces and bullets were exchanged.
Altogether 3 persons were killed and 15 others seriously injured in a road accident in Nagaon district on Saturday. The accident took place at Dimou Chariali near Nagaon town the wee hours when a truck and a mini-bus collided killing the three on the spot. Despite restriction, a truck, breaching the orders, attempted to overcome the police squad and had a head-on collision with another vehicle coming from the opposite side.
A heavy downpour in Guwahati seemed to have marred the Durga Puja festivity on Saturday. Parts of the city have come under floodwaters following incessant rain that lashed the city for nearly two hours. The CNN-IBN has selected Assam's noted RTI activist Akhil Gogoi as one of the top ten young leader of the country. This was confirmed by the KMSS leader on Friday in Guwahati.
