Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi was on a stock taking visit to Goalpara on Sunday a week after the district was ravaged by the sudden flood waters. During his visit, Gogoi visited relief camps in Goalpara where 18 people lost their lives and over 5 lakhs have been rendered homeless. Oil India announces Rs 1,200 crore investment in the state to revamp the pump stations of pipelines for carrying crude to refineries. The announcement came from OIL Chairman and Managing Director S K Srivastava on Saturday when he was addressing the shareholders during the 55th Annual General Body Meeting at the company's Fields' Headquarters in Duliajan. In his speech, Srivastava said the pumping stations of the trunk pipeline have been operating for over five decades and a revamping of these pump stations is being undertaken at a cost of Rs 1,200 crore. Union home minister Rajnath Singh would be on a stock taking to the flood hit areas of Goalpara and Kamrup district along with South Garo hills in Meghalaya on October 1.The flood waters in these two districts continue to recede following the halt of rains during the last couple of days. Singh has already sent Kiren Rijiju who wrapped up his aerial survey on Saturday afternoon.The Centre had already provided some immediate relief in the form of ex gratia to the next of kin of those who have died in the floods. Union minister of state for home Kiren Rijiju gives hint of sufficient fund for to help the state get rid of flood fury and the aftermath. The arrest of Jaiklong Brahma has reached the court with Gauhati High Court issuing notices to the Centre, State Government, District Magistrate, Kokrajhar, and Superintendent of Police questioning the legality and validity of the TV journalist’s arrest under the National Security Act (NSA).In an order, the court has asked for the reply within October 15.Advocates Bijon Mahajan and Arshad Choudhury appeared for the Kokrajhar-based journalist who was arrested on September 3 for allegedly hobnobbing with NDFB(S) and feeding the outfit with information.
