Politics behind Garo member nomination

The Garo National Coordination Committee and Garo Sahitya Sabha a paralyzing politics over the move to nominate a Garo member in the BTC.

Addressing the reporters in Kokrajhar on Monday, GNCC general secretary Madhunath Marak and GSS leader Livson Sangma said that the entire procedure seems to have mired in dirty politics.

The duo have urged Mohilary to nominate Triben Sangma who was proposed from Garo community to the post. 

Triben Sangma, president of BTAD region GSU said that the students union was working for the all round development in the region and the community organisations has stepped to nominate him to the council on consensus resolution adopted involving ten organisations including Garo sahitya sabha, Garo women wing, Garo Gaon burgh Association and district students union of the BTAD.

Bangladesh steps up procedures to deport ULFA general secretary Anup Chetia next week. But the authorities are tightlipped on the date. Security has been beefed up at the Rajshahi central jail have for Chetia, who is has been languishing in the jail since 1997. Sources say Chetia was allowed to know the process. Thaneswar Hazarika, of the Bokakhat Town and the local correspondent of The Sentinel newspaper died on Saturday at his residence following prolonged illness. Born in Majuli, Hazarika was 64 at the time of his demise. Noted educationist, Hazarika retired as the principal-in-charge of JDSG college, Bokakhat. He was associated with various newspapers of Assam including The Assam Tribune, Dainik Asom, The Sentinel, The Eastern Clarion, Natun Dainik etc. He was serving as the president of Bokakhat Press Club at the time of his demise. Highly admired by the people of Bokakhat, Hazarika leaves behind his wife, two daughters and a son, besides a host of relatives.
