Enquiry in transport department

A high level enquiry has been initiated against some officials of Assam Transport Department for their alleged involvement in illegally collecting money from trucks. Based on the memorandum submitted by some truck drivers and truck owners a few days ago, the office of the Honorable President of India has ordered the Chief Secretary to the Government of Assam, Jitesh Khosla to institute an enquiry to the matter. 

The Commissioner, Transport Department will head a high level enquiry into the allegation. It will be worthwhile to mention here that a group of influential Enforcement Inspectors of the Transport Department has been involved with the illegal money collections from the goods laden trucks which enters Assam from other states.

Annual College week starts at DBU

Assam Don Bosco University's annual college week D'VERVE was inaugurated on 10th March 2014 by Mr. Universe and famous body-builder Mahadev Deka. A peace rally on this occasion  themed UNITED NORTHEAST PEACE RALLY was taken out from the university premises to Dharapur Chariali in the presence of  Mahadev Deka, Vice chancellor Fr. Stephen Mavely, Principal Dr. Manoranjan Kalita, Co-ordinator Monmoyuri Baruah, other dignitaries, faculty members and all the students. It was followed by the lighting of the torch and the college week being declared open by Vice Chancellor Fr. Stephen Mavely. Fr. Mavely in his speech highlighted the importance of such an event in the academic lives of the students and also urged active participation from all the students. Mahadev Deka in his address highlighted the importance of fitness in a person's life and also gave lessons on nutrients and proper ways of taking care of one's fitness. He even demonstrated some exercises to the students. The day's program hosted by Tenzin Chonzom Khom came to an end with Principal of School of Technology Dr. Manoranjan Kalita giving the final vote of thanks. 

The annual college week is a five day long program and will end on 15th march 2014. There are about three hundred events in the field of sports, literary, dance, music, drama, creativity, art and craft, designing etc that will take place during these four days.  

 

Mild tremor shakes Assam

A 3.6 magnitude earthquake jolted Assam on Wednesday. But the people in the north eastern state, mostly, failed to feel it. According to a seismological Centre, originated in Nagaon, the tremor jolted the central parts of the state at 1. 15 midnight.

Hepatitis B vaccination camp concludes

Over 65 media persons with their spouses joined in a fresh Hepatitis B vaccination camp organized by Dispur Hospital at Guwahati Press Club on 11 May 2015. The camp started at 11 am and continued till 1 pm.

According to the experts, the Hepatitis B virus affects the human liver and may cause liver cancer and liver cirrhosis. It can cause both acute and chronic infections. It is transmitted through blood and infected bodily fluids. Statistics reveal that over 750,000 people die of hepatitis B each year in the world.

The second (and final) dose of the Hepatitis B vaccine will be given on 11 June 2015 at the press club starting from 11 am (till 1 pm), which is advised necessary for completion of the vaccination process.
