Centre’s NO to ST status

The centre has rejected the demands for ST status to six ethnic tribes forcing many organizations to hit the streets.

Ministry for tribal affairs sources told Assam Times in New Delhi that after a thorough study the authorities have  rejected the demands ST status for tea garden workers, Ahoms, Koch Rajbanshi, Chutias and Muttocks citing lack of laid down norms.

The decision is set to run into a hail of protest in Delhi and Dispur. The demand was long standing and both Delhi and Dispur have been assuring these ethnic tribes of their due status for the last ten years.

Both Congress and BJP promised S status for the 6 ethnic tribes for overall uplift.

This exposes the governments scandalous motives and false poll promises. This also goes against the spirits of the Pro Talks faction of ULFA , whom the government had promised the STfication of the state .Successive governments have done this and the present has proved that they are no better than the previous.

No poll nomination yet in Nagaland

KOHIMA:No poll candidates in Nagaland has so far filed nomination papers even two days after the Election Commission issues notification for the February 27 assembly polls. Kokrajhar youth died in Hyderabad

KOKRAJHAR: Yet another youth from Kokrajhar died died in Hyderabad after he departed home in search of job in the capital city of Andhra Pradesh. Identified as Manik Ali, son of Jagir Ali, a resident of Dhurmari was found dead on Wednesday night. According to information, Manik who was engaged in construction works died after the portion of a building where he was deployed collapsed. His family members whom he called up at 10 in the morning received the shocking news at 8 in the evening. His family members, however, have not believed it an accidental death. SIVASAGAR: Security forces are fanning along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border in Charaideo to combat the suspected ULFA(I) rebels who triggered a reign of terror on Wednesday night with gunfiring at a tea garden.
