BJP not averse to poll pact with AGP: Chakravarty

Assam BJP firbrand and former Union minister Bijoya Chakravarty says her party is not averse to forge poll pact with Asom Gana Parishad. Talking to reporters recently in the city, she has said the poll pact has become necessary only to bail out Assam from the Congress misrule. "There may be some difference between AGP and BJP. All these are ideological but we are united this time we must end the misrule of the Tarun Gogopi Government in the state." she has said.

She further said both BJP and AGP are in for a bright prospect for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls and if it so happens, she has said, it will be a big relief for the people."

Mrs Chakravarty, who has recently been posted a the party’s vice president in the national level observed that during the last elections in State, division of votes on mere 30 seats between the two parties was a major factor in allowing the Congress to form the government.

A 4-years old boy, son Anirudha Saikia and Padma Saikia of Geleky, Methonchuwa of Sivasagar was kiddnapped by one Diganta Sasoni of the same village on Wednesday. The NGO, Jeuti (Unnatir Ek Yatra), under their project, Grammya Arthik Sashalata Mancha, organised a week long workshop at Singhdwar Community Auditorium. In this workshop they trained the participants to make items from the Jute, Water Hyacinth and un-used materials. The NGO also help their trainees for loan and marketing of their products. Sensation prevails in Golaghat district of upper Assam when Nagaland policemen thrashed a group of school girls on Wednesday. The incident took place at around 9 in the morning as the policemen beat up some school goers at Thuramukh under Golaghat police station. Altogether 50 students, mostly girls, have been injured in the incident. Fifteen of these injured students have been rushed to the Kushal Konwar Civil Hospital. Jayanti Gogoi and Latumoni Bhuyan have been seriously injured.

Assam's overall flood situation remains grim on Wednesday with Brahmaputra flowing above the danger leevl affecting atleast five lakh people. A mild tremor has shaken parts of Guwahati and its neighbouring lower Assam districts on Saturday. As the mild quake struck at around at 12-33 pm, a section of the panic stricken residents in the city started coming out of their houses. According to US Geological Research center,the intensity of the earthquake is 4.8 in the Richter scale. There is however no report of any casualty.
