End of road for NDFB-S!

A massive blueprint is underway to firmly deal with NDFB-S after the insurgent outfit unleashed a reign of terror by killing at least 70 people in Kokrajhar and Sonitpur districts on Tuesday.

Union home minister Rajnath Singh is averse to hold talks with the senseless outfit saying that conscience does not allow anybody to hold talks. The militant outfits, often, resort to talks tactic to get rid of an intensive pressure in the form of combing operation. But this time it’s a straight NO.

The Centre is believed to have received the much-needed consent from Bhutan to go for an operation all clear like offensive on the soil of the Himalayan kingdom. The consent was quick after the Union home minister talked to minister of external affairs Sushma Swaraj. Towards the fag-end of 2005, the Atal Bihar Vajpayee government launched the operation all clear in Bhutan where a circle of top ULFA, NDFB and KLO leaders were captured.

Army, police and para military forces start intensifying crackdown against the NDFB-S militants even inside the dense jungles even deploying helicopters in some selected pockets.

Moreover, the authorities have sealed the Indo-Bhutan border which has been their safe escape route for the last couple of years. Security forces start concentrating on the inaccessible areas along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh so that the militants can’t make it yet another reliable escape route to the neighboring state.

These are apart from the widespread anger and resentment of the common people who are no longer prepared to tolerate so much torture and harassment by the militant outfit.

Same anger and resentment is likely to be capitalized on other militant outfits who have been striking at regular intervals only to make their presence felt. Doesn’t these suggest an end of the road for NDFB-S?

Senior journalist Ajit Bhuyan step downs from Prag News

Senior journalist Ajit Kr. Bhuyan has stepped down from Guwahati based sattelite news channel Prag News as it's chief editor. Bhuyan, who has been playing a major role in mass mobilisation for the on-going anti-CAA protest in the state, on Saturday formally submitted his resignation. Bhuyan, who has been active in journalism for the last three decade, is the founder editor of Asomiya Pratidin, the largest circulated Assamese newspaper. He was also the founding editor of Aji.

Artists take out massive rally in Guwahati against #CAA

A massive rally under the aegis of the Assam Artists' Society was organised in Guwahati on Sunday against the Citizenship Amendment Act. Thousands of people besides a huge number of artists gathered at the Sudhakantha Dr. Bhupen Hazarika's memorial at Jalukbari in the city and took part in a protest meet there. Later, they took out the streets shouting 'Jay Aai Asom' slogan . Several artists including celebrated singer-film maker Zubeen Garg and singer Manash Rabin took part in the rally and addressed the masses.

Pro-talks ULFA leader Jiten Dutta released from jail

Pro-talks ULFA leader Jiten Dutta, who played a role in spearheading anti-Citizenship Amendment Act protest in the state, was released from judicial custody on Sunday. Dutta was arrested on December 12 by the Tinsukia police on charges of inciting the masses to stage protest against the controversial Act. Later, he was remanded to judical custody by a court in Tinsukia. Since then he was lodged in the Tinsukia central jail. On Saturday the pro-talks ULFA leader was granted bail by a court. As per the court's direction he was released.

#CAA protests adversly impact business in the state

To show strength and tackle resentment against the ruling alliance the BJP organised a massive organisational meet in Guwahati on Saturday. Addressing the gathering, where several hundred booth BJP presidents and kayrakartas took part, minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the AASU has every right to protest against the controversial Citizenship Act, which has rocked the entire country. He added that  Assam is a land of Shankardeva, Madhavdeva and Ajan Fakir. “Anyone can oppose or support CAA. Kula Saikia opposes CAA

Newly elected Asom Sahitya Sabha President Kula Saikia has opposed the Citizenship Amendment Act. Saikia, who retired as Assam DGP in November 2019, said that the Act could not be accepted. Speaking to media he pointed out the people of Assam including the apex literary body of the state have been protesting against the Act since 2018. “This very Act is unacceptable,”he said. A Sahitya Academy awardee Saikia also hoped that the BJP-led Central government would pay heed to the protest in the state.

Protests continue in Assam against CAA

Peaceful protests against much controversial and debatable new citizenship laws have been seen escalated in Assam by the day. People across the Brahmaputra valley everyday take to streets shouting 'joi aai Asom' and 'no to CAA' slogans defying cold weather since December last. AJYCP to go SC for ILP

The Assam Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad(AJYCP) will move to Supreme Court of India seeking Inner Line Permit system for Assam. The organistion will file a petition in the Apex court shortly. It has started discussion on the matter with lawyers, informed AJYCP Secretary Palash Changmai at a press meet on Thursday. ULFA(I) cadre arrested

The city police arrested an ULFA(I) cadre on last night from the Panjabari locality. Acting on a tip-off the police nabbed him from near the Srimanta Shankardeva Kalakeshtra at around 9pm. According to police the cadre has been identified as Bitopan Sonowal of Dibrugarh. He came the city for  subversive activities on or before the arrival of PM Narendra Modi, sources revealed. Today, a local court remanded him for two days police custody.

AASU appeals to pay respect to six anti-CAA matyrs

The All Assam Students' Union (AASU) has appealed the people of Assam to pay respect to six anti-CAA martyrs on Wednessday evening by lighting earthen lamp. The Students' outfit has said, “We appeal all household to light earthen lamp on the evening of January 1, 2020 infront their houses as a mark of respect to the six people who laid their lives for our language, culture and diversity.” On December 12 last six people including an adolscent were shot to death by police in different parts of Guwahati on charges of involving with violent protest. The AASU, along with several other organisations, has been vehemently protesting against the CAA since 2018.
