Nazira, March 4: The 134th birth anniversary of noted Assamese poet Jatindranath Duwara, popularly known as “Bonphulor Kobi”, was observed at 328 No. Kaphuwa Primary School in Nazira on March 4. The programme was organised by the voluntary organisation Agontuk.
The observance began with the lighting of a ceremonial lamp before the poet’s portrait by the school’s headmaster Amrit Gogoi, while Pallavi Gogoi, president of the School Management Committee, paid floral tribute.
As part of the event, a painting exhibition by artist Dipali Duwara and a drawing competition were inaugurated by Sattriya dance teacher Dibakar Gogoi.
The main function was chaired by Jog Gogoi, president of Agontuk, while Ranjit Phukan conducted the proceedings. The welcome address was delivered by the organisation’s general secretary Dilip Saikia. The programme was formally inaugurated by Dilip Phukan, retired principal of Bezbaruah Higher Secondary School.
Participating as the chief speaker, writer Haren Chandra Nath presented a brief discussion on the literary contributions of Jatindranath Duwara. He noted that the poet’s works continue to inspire and attract readers across generations.
Student speaker Monjit Konwar also spoke on important aspects of the poet’s life and legacy.
The cultural segment featured group dances, poetry recitations and musical performances. Modern songs were presented by Jyotisman Phukan, Daisy Priyam Konwar, Kasturi Bailung, Prabhat Konwar and Nivedita Phukan.
During the programme, artist, writer and teacher Dipali Duwara was felicitated by Agontuk in recognition of her contributions.
