The Assam Government has recommended NIA probe into the BTAD violence where at least 33 people were killed.

Talking to reporters after the cabinet meeting in Dispur, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said that this is a fit case for NIA probe.

Gogoi said that his government has sought extra forces from the Centre apart from Cobra forces to firmly deal with the situation.

Dr MMS is the MP from Assam and he should take the moral responsibilty for the violence. The UPA and state government who had been ruling for the last 10 years must be blamed for such butchery. But Congress sees only shadow of Modi on anything. The Congress leaders leaders who used to revel in the luxury and comforts in Delhi offices were always apathetic towards the violence in Kashmir and  Punjab during the 1970's and 1980's. The secular leaders were more philosohical and much less practical in understanding the problems of people in all parts of the country. There was similar violence in 2012 in NE. Then the government should have take precautionary measures to avert the occurance of similar incidents. When there is NO capable ruler or leader at the centre, the state governments will also follow the anarchy. "Yatha Raja Thatha Praja" means "AS THE RULER SO THE RULED". If the king of the country is of good character, with good heart and always thinking of well-being of his subjects, and if he is a spiritual thinker and peaceful minded, his subjects will be like him in all these ways too

The Central Bureau of Investigation, probing the Sharada scam finds it difficult to ascertain the involvement of Anjan Dutta in the multi crore scam.Sources told Assam Times that some cheques issued by the chit fund to Dutta’s Anubhuti Printers have no less confused the investigators.The printing tariff in the Anubhuti Printers does not suggest anything that can help CBI carry forward the probe against the APCC president.CBI interrogated Dutta for several hours for the second time in Kolkata on Thursday.Earlier in November, CBI grilled Dutta for several hours in this connection. Dutta owns a printing press where Saradha printed two dailies.

Golaghat: NRC update in progress

The process to update NRC is underway in Golaghat along with other districts from Friday.NRC officials are on door to door visit distributing forms to be supervised by another circle of officers.The deputy commissioner is the district registrar of citizen registration. NRC updating begins in Jorhat

Finally the process to update the National Register of Citizens, 1951 begins across the state on Friday. AASU won’t relent

The All Assam Students Union will keep fighting all major issues confronting the state for decades. This was more or less of what the student leaders pledged at the end of the Goalpara convention which concluded on Thursday.Talking to Assam Times, AASU leaders said that they will mount pressure on the government to flawlessly update the National Register of Citizens, 1951. AASU gets new guard

The All-Assam Students Union is changing its faces with Dipanka Nath and Lurin Gogoi. The formal announcement is expected on Friday. Rhino census ends in Kaziranga

A team of experts from the Wildlife Institute of India, National Tiger Conservation Authority, ministry of environment and forests is continuing rhino census in the Kaziranga National Park on Friday.KNP park officials told Assam Times that the results are expected to be available on Mach 29.The officials told Assam Times that they are sure that the census would give them a ray of hope. They expect that the rhino population would be encouraging like never before despite being riddled by poaching incidents.

CBI grills Anjan Dutta again

The Central Bureau of Investigation, probing the Sharada scam interrogated APCC president Anjan Dutta for the second time in Kolkata on Thursday.Sources told Assam Times the special investigation team set to probe the multi crore scam grilled him nearly four hours at the Salt Lake based office in connection with the cheat fund scam.The investigators are believed to have asked Dutta to clarify some cheques issued by the Saradha group to his Anubhuti Printers.The CBI sought details of the rates of printing to examine his intention with the Saradha group.Earlier in November, CBI grilled Dutta for several hours in this connection.  

Prez commutes capital punishment

In a rare case, President Pranab Mukherjee has commuted death sentence of a murder convict to life imprisonment in Assam.Sources in Delhi told Assam Times that the death sentence Man Bahadur Dewan in Dibrugarh district has been commuted to life imprisonment.He was sentenced to death for killing his wife Gauri and two minor sons, Rajib and Kajib apart from killing one o his 13 years back.Then he surrendered before the police in September, 2002.The President is said to have relied upon the Home Ministry’s suggestion to take be soft.
