Kokrajhar ready for poll

The Kokrajhar district administration is all set and geared up for the 3rd and last phase parliamentary election schedueld tomorrow in a tight security.

Kokrajhar Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer Nitin Khade said the administration is fully prepared to conduct the election and ready to hold the election in free and fair manner. 

Kokrajhar Lok Sabha constituency consists of 10 Assembly segments. The total number of voters in respect of Kokrajhar HPC is 15, 03,190 with 7, 30,582 female voters. 

There are a total of 2049 numbers of polling stations, 130 polling building were identified as very sensitive, 220 sensitively safe and 188 comparatively safe.  

Khade said that preventive measures have been taken up and security intensified and round the clock security vigil. He said necessary arrangement with adequate security were done in border areas - West Bengal inter-state and Indo-Bhutan international border. He said army and paramilitary forces were used for area domination in sensitive areas which has presence of militancy in border areas.

He also said army helicopter would be used for security purpose and in emergency.

Kokrajhar is witnessing a multi-corned contest this time with a total six candidates in fray. The candidates are Urkhao Gwra Brahma (Independent, backed by ABSU and its allied organizations and parties like the BPPF, NDFB (P), UDPF, the PJACBM), Chandan Brahma of Bodoland Peoples' Front  (BPF), Ranjit Shekhar Mooshahary of Trinamool Congress (TMC), Naba Kumar Sarania alias Hira Sarania(Independent, backed by  Sanmilita Janagosthiya Aikya Manch), four times sitting MP Sansuma Khunggur Bwiswmuthiary(Independent) and Sabda Ram Rabha(Independent).

Bodoland Day celebration today

Preparations to holding the 14th Bodoland Day on Wednesday on the historic Bodo Accord day celebration have so far completed at Bodofa Nwgwr, near BTC secretariat in Kokrajhar.  The celebration will begin with hoist of national tri colour flag in the morning following homage to Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma in front of BTC Secretariat.  Amit Shah, president of BJP party would grace as chief guest to mark the celebration a grand step of fourteen years of Bodo Accord.  BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary would address the celebration which will mark a grand gathering in the council.  The BTC was created through tripartite peace agreement on February 10,2003.

While the Assam assembly election is round the corner the Chirang district administration conducted an awareness programme on the instriuction of the election commission for the political parties and candidates during election process. Girl's self defense training begins

A 2 month self defense training programme of school girls’ has been began from Monday at Kaliphukuri High School ground in a demonstration programme in Kokrajhar. The training was organised by Kickboxing Association of Bodoland Territorial Council, Assam and WUSHU Association to teach and bringing of awareness about self defense for girls’ in their life. NDFB-S link man arrested

Security forces belonging to Police, Army and CRPF apprehended a link man of the NDFB-S in a joint operation at Shantipur area under Kachugaon PS in Kokrajhar district today. Getting information about the working of link man of the militant outfit, security forces conducted an operation in the area and able to arrest a link man, who has been working for the militant outfit organization since long years.  The arrested was identified as Biswajit Basumatary alias Bishop.  A country made riffle, five bullets was recovered from him. 

NDFB-S section commander killed in encounter

A senior second section commander of NDFB (Songbijit faction) was killed in an encounter with security forces at Ranipur area under Runikhata police station of Assam's Chirang district early this morning.  Based on a tiptop information about presence of militants, a joint team of Assam police and 7 Sikh Light Infantry launched an operation at Ranipur area since late night where an exchange of gun fire was held by 3 am early this morning and a senior section commander of NDFB-S was killed on the spot. Lecture Programme in Bodoland University

A lecture programme was organized by department of English, Bodoland University, Kokrajhar on February 4. Renowned poet, essayist and Tibetan activist, Tenzin Tsundue spoke on the topic of  “The Poetics of Exile Writing”, who was born, brought to a Tibetan Refugee family and educated in India. Teachers stages sit-in-demonstration

Pramod Chandra Brahma literary award for Dr Kameswar Brahma

Padmashri (Dr) Kameswar Brahma, president of  Bodo Sahitya Sabha(BSS) has been named for the Pramod Chandra Brahma Literary Award, 2016 instituted by BTC education department. Brahma has been named for the award for his relentless contribution towards development of literary in his life long. Brahma born at Bhumka village under Gossaigaon subdivision of Kokrajhar district has authored many books and research works on Bodo and tribal cultures.
