PM coming to cast vote

Dispur turns into a security fortress a day before the third and final phase of Lok Sabha polls. Dispur Govt HS School seems to have drawn maximum concentration of the security forces.

Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh is all set to visit the school to exercise his franchise on Thursday. Dr Singh, who is on his last visit to the state as a prime minister, is scheduled to arrive in Guwahati Airport at 12 noon by a special plane.

Then Dr Singh, who represents Assam in the Rajya Sabha, will straightly leave for Dispur by a helicopter where he would cast his vote at the Dispur Govt HS School at around 12-30.

During his brief visit to the capital city, Dr Singh will meet chief minister Tarun Gogoi and state Congress president Bhubneswar Kalita.

A team of special protection group has already arrived in the school premises to ensure safety and security of the prime minister whom Assam adopted in 1991.

At least five persons were killed when a vehicle carrying them to Manipur met with a tragic mishap at the National Highway 31 in Kamrup district on Saturday. The mishap took place near Baihata Chariali at around 4-30 in the morning. Altogether 15 people were travelling from Siliguri to Manipur and as the vehicle reached Kalajal, it rammed into a bridge leaving 5 passengers dead on the spit.
