PM coming to cast vote

Dispur turns into a security fortress a day before the third and final phase of Lok Sabha polls. Dispur Govt HS School seems to have drawn maximum concentration of the security forces.

Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh is all set to visit the school to exercise his franchise on Thursday. Dr Singh, who is on his last visit to the state as a prime minister, is scheduled to arrive in Guwahati Airport at 12 noon by a special plane.

Then Dr Singh, who represents Assam in the Rajya Sabha, will straightly leave for Dispur by a helicopter where he would cast his vote at the Dispur Govt HS School at around 12-30.

During his brief visit to the capital city, Dr Singh will meet chief minister Tarun Gogoi and state Congress president Bhubneswar Kalita.

A team of special protection group has already arrived in the school premises to ensure safety and security of the prime minister whom Assam adopted in 1991.

Cost of PM and his family visit for casting vote in Assam msut be recover from his personal account as voter has to trevel to electoral booth at own cost/vehical as per the People Representation Act, there is no provisin of TA/DA/others allowances to voter for casting their votes

Cong set to win 2 RS seats

Congress is set to win two of the three Rajya Sabha seats in the polls slated for February 7. Youths crushed to death

Two local youths were killed in Nagaon district when a speeding truck rammed in to their scooter on Tuesday.The tragic mishap took place on the national highway in Bebejia when the scooter in which the youths were riding on from the market.The duo died on the spot. In a bizarre incident that sends shockwaves across the state, a Class X student from Guwahati was burnt alive in Morigaon on Monday.The incident took place in Morigaon where a school boy was burnt to death at a bhelaghar hours after he went with his one of his friends in the morning.Police on Tuesday arrested his four friends who took the student to Morigaon from Guwahati.

Mooshahary to fight from Kokrajhar

Cong strategy for RS polls

Rajya Sabha polls are slated for February 7. The ruling party is believed to have chalked out a slew of strategies to win the three Rajya Sabha seats.Party leaders are in touch with AIUDF and independent legislators to ensure win in all the three seats.The party still falls short of 8 votes to occupy the three seats which are set to be vacant following the expiry of the terms for Bhubneswar kalita from Congress, Biswajeet Daimary from BPF along with Birendra Prasad Baishya from AGP.

LS polls: AIUDF to go it alone

The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) will fight it alone in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.This was what party president Badaruddin Ajmal told reporters in Guwahati after he held a close door meeting on Tuesday. The party is set to field candidates in 8 seats this time.Party sources told assamtimes that they are in touch with BJP and AGP to help their candidate win the Rajya Sabbha polls slated for February 7.

Goswami’s death shrouded in mystery

Dr Bhagawan Goswami’s death seems to have shrouded in mystery a day after the lifeless professor of the Cotton College was recovered on the Brahmaputra in Panbazar on Monday.After the post mortem, his family members have called it a cold blooded murder citing a number of clues.
