Waiting for Rahul Gandhi

Amid a massive security arrangement, people thronging in thousands in Biswanath Chariali to attend Rahul Gandhi’s rally on Monday.

Security forces are fanning across the district to thwart any move by NDFB-S militants to disrupt Gandhi’s poll rally to campaign for Tezpur party candidate Bhupen Bora.

Senior party leaders told Assam Times that security forces are guarding hundreds of buses deployed by the party to ferry people to the rally at the Kamala Kanta Khetra.

Gandhi is scheduled to arrive in Tezpur at 11 in the morning. Then he would straightly leave for Biswanath Charilai to hold the rally. He would fly to Dibrugarh at 1-30 in the afternoon.      

Massive security arrangement is required in the entire district in view of NDFB-S militants’ 12 hour bandh to oppose Rahul Gandhi’s visit.

Rahul's rally in Assam is equally important. He has been strength of congress party and he has given its party a breakthrough. His efforts were transformed into actions.

One can see that Rahul Gandhi's popularity is rising day by day. He is very much popular among the young generation and also among the people at the grassroot level. He is putting good efforts in reaching out to people.

CLP-BPFLP meet on Wednesday

Rs 288 cr for NRC

The Centre has sanctioned a huge amount of Rs 288 crore fund to update the NRC within a period of 3 years.This was what the government told the Supreme Court on Monday. The Centre disclosed the figure when the top court was resuming the hearing of a PIL filed by the Assam Public Works.The Supreme Court was satisfied with the preliminary works to update the NRC and fixed the next hearing date on August 4.

AASU warns Mali

KMSS activists flogged

Several people have been injured when policemen sprang upon a crowd of KMSS protesters in Titabor on Monday.The incident took place in the afternoon when thousands of people were participating at a dharna in front of the Titabor SDO office demanding CBI probe into the alleged scam in the water supply scheme.Protestors told Assam Times that despite repeated request the SDO was reluctant to receive their memorandum. “Policemen on duty started flogging us indiscriminately without any altercation. Akhil detained in Titabor

KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi courted arrest when he was leading a massive protest in front of Titabor SDO office alleging a crore rupee scam in the water supply scheme in the area on Monday.Policemen on duty tried to disperse Gogoi and his protestors by blank firing and lobbing tear gas shell where at least ten protestors have been injured. Later Gogoi was detained by police.   

Tackling horse trading
