Home ministry claims to have enough evidence of stepped up activities of the Maoists in Assam. The extremists are trying to set up bases in a few upper Assam districts.
Addressing a two-day seminar organised by the CDPS, peace interlocutor with the north east insurgent outfits PC Haldar said that it could lead a serious strategic security complication to north east.
He said that foreign forces may use the Maoists as pawn to fulfil their agenda.
According to him, the focus falls on a few upper Assam districts and a few pockets in the interior areas to set up their bases. The choice of upper Assam and the adjoining areas assume added significance because of its proximity to international border and traditional ingress-egress routes of armed groups of the region to their bases in Myanmar.
