Waiting for Rahul Gandhi

Amid a massive security arrangement, people thronging in thousands in Biswanath Chariali to attend Rahul Gandhi’s rally on Monday.

Security forces are fanning across the district to thwart any move by NDFB-S militants to disrupt Gandhi’s poll rally to campaign for Tezpur party candidate Bhupen Bora.

Senior party leaders told Assam Times that security forces are guarding hundreds of buses deployed by the party to ferry people to the rally at the Kamala Kanta Khetra.

Gandhi is scheduled to arrive in Tezpur at 11 in the morning. Then he would straightly leave for Biswanath Charilai to hold the rally. He would fly to Dibrugarh at 1-30 in the afternoon.      

Massive security arrangement is required in the entire district in view of NDFB-S militants’ 12 hour bandh to oppose Rahul Gandhi’s visit.

Suspected NDFB(S) militants kidnapped a businessman in Lakhimpur district on Sunday.Identified as Mukesh Agarwalla, he was kidnapped from Simluguri in Bihpuria in the morning at gunpoint.Rescue operation is underway. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Sunday laid the foundation stone of the state’s first ever horticulture college in at a function in Nalbari.In his address at the function presided over by agriculture minister Nilomoni Sendeka, Gogoi hoped that the college would help the state bring a boomtime in horticulture.Deka said that the government has sanctioned Rs 25 crore for the college and that the session of the college would begin soon. AGP leader and former MLA Hitendra Nath Goswami on Sunday quit the regional party.Gowasmi, the three time party legislator from Jorhat Assembly constituency has already sent his resignation letter as the party’s primary member to president Prafulla Kumar Mahanta.Goswami sent the resignation letter a day after he met the party members in Jorhat on Saturday. The development is a staggering blow for the regional party three months before the Lok Sabha polls.
Despite stringent laws, wild animals are being smuggled from Guwahati. Basistha police arrested a person from Beltola area and seized two gecko snakes from his possession.Identified as Devendra Singh, the person from Manipur was held from a hotel after he received two gecko snakes on Saturday night.The geckos were seized hardly 12 hours after police seized from Koliabhumura area and held a youth from Manipur on way to Guwahati.

One person was killed and three others have been injured when a vehicle hit the post of a bridge in Morigaon district on Saturday night.The incident took place at Dharamtul on the National Highway No 37 when the vehicle carrying four people to Jajori in Nagaon met with the mishap. One person died on the spot while three others were rushed to the hospital.
