Kamakhya Prasad Tasa on Friday filed his nomination papers as BJP candidate in Jorhat for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
Accompanied by his senior party leaders, Tasa arrived in the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Jorhat where he submitted his nomination papers before the returning officer at 12 in the noon.
Congress candidate BK Handique, CPI candidate Drupad Buragohain, AGP candidate Pradeep Hazarika and AAP candidate Manoram Gogoi have already filed their nomination papers.
The papers would be scrutinized on Saturday and the last date for withdrawal of nomination is slated for March 23. The polling will take place on April 7.

In a setback for the Raijor Dal and its supporters, Supreme Court of India has rejected the bail plea of Akhil Gogoi, on Thursday. The KMSS leader and the president of the Raijor Dal moved the SC challenging the reject order passed by the Guwahati High Court. Hearing the plea earlier today, a three-judge bench of the SC comprising of Justice NV Ramana, Justice Surya Kant and Justice Aniruddha Bose denied bail to the activist.

In a horrific incident, a 40-year old man was lynched in a village of Karbi-Anglong on Sunday night.
As per reports, a mob of some villagers brutally assulted a man to death. The victim was identified as Monsing Rongpi. He was a resident of the Karashi Bey village under the Bakalia police station. The mob first took him to a football field where they tied him to a goalpost before beating him mercilessly. Due to the assult, Rongpi died at the spot, reports said.
