Young generation exhorted to carry Bhupen da's legacy

 


TANGLA: The people of the town paid rich tributes to the Dr. Bhupen Hazarika on the ocassion of his 92nd birth anniversary in a day long programme held here at Bordoloi Bhawan hall in Tangla on Saturday.The programme initiated with lightning of lamps by Academician,Binoy Kumar Medhi followed by floral tributes to the portait of the music maestro led by social worker,Likhan Das followed  by a host of litterateurs, noted citizens,school and college students. Speaking on the ocassion Binoy Medhi described the legendary music maestro as an apostle of universal brotherhood.Hazarika strengthened the fabric of communal harmony in the state, said Medhi.Remembering  Hazarika's rich contributions, Likhan Das said, "We need to strengthen our society based on the dreams of Dr Bhupen Hazarika by harmonising the people into emulating for a Bor Axom and celebrate its unity in diversity". He also exhorted the younger generations to grow by following the footsteps of Dr Bhupen Hazarika.A plantation programme was also held where educationist,senior journalist and lawyer,Dr. Keshab Ch. Dutta took part. A group of students performed  the immortal song  "Manuhe Manuhor Babe". Bhergaon SDO(C),Dithakananda Hazarika delighted the audience by performing on a number of songs of the Bard of Brahmaputra. He also took part on a  ceremonious cake cutting ceremony on the ocassion.

UDALGURI: The Assam Human Rights Commission (AHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of newspaper reports of the alleged incident of police atrocities on a doctor in Chirang district on Friday.  AHRC has issued a notice to the District Magistrate, Chirang  to cause an inquiry into the incident where media reports stated that the Officer-in-Charge of Amguri PS in Chirang District not only assaulted Dr. Madhurjya Kakati, in-charge of the Amteka Mini PHC but also made him to kneel down along with two  others for not wearing masks. TANGLA: A  devastating inferno gutted six houses in Pujakhola locality of Tangla town on Tuesday night at about 9 pm. Though the source of the fire has not been ascertained ,fire broke out followed by explosion of  six cylinders razing the properties worth lakhs  to the ground  within minutes. UDALGURI: A baby hog deer weighing about six kilogram was rescued by  Mithu Sarkar and Ankit Tanti, two activists of Green Valley Wild Life Protection Society, an NGO of Orongajuli tea estate area today at about 3.00 pm and handed over this to the Udalguri forest department in a healthy condition. While talking to this correspondent, Mithu Sarksr informed that the NGO has been instrumental to rescue young ones of hog deers, wild elephants, tiger cubs in the near past too and till date, it has been able to rescue such animals which came to their notice.
