Udalguri: The second phase of the Lok Sabha elections in Assam saw a significant turnout, with 72.99% of eligible voters casting their ballots across the Darrang-Udalguri Parliamentary Constituency. Voting took place on Friday across 11 Assembly constituencies, including Rangia, Kamalpur, Tamulpur, Goreswar, Bhergaon, Tangla, Udalguri, Mazbat, Sipajhar, Mangaldai, and Dalgaon.
The high turnout was evident from the early morning, as long lines formed outside polling stations, with voters patiently waiting to cast their votes. Notably, there was a strong presence of young and first-time voters, indicating a growing interest among the youth in the democratic process.
To ensure accessibility for all, special arrangements were made for voters with disabilities (PwDs). This included transportation services to and from polling stations. Many differently-abled voters and senior citizens also participated, demonstrating a robust commitment to exercising their constitutional rights.
By 5 pm, the voter turnout had reached nearly 73%. Among the 11 Assembly constituencies, Kamalpur had the highest turnout at 80.2%, followed by Dalgaon at 78.4% and Rangia at 77.6%. Other constituencies also saw significant participation: Sipajhar at 73.1%, Tangla at 72.36%, Mazbat at 71.23%, Mangaldai at 72.3%, Tamulpur at 69%, Goreswar at 68%, Bhergaon at 70.67%, and Udalguri at 66.23%.
Voters from various backgrounds expressed enthusiasm for the electoral process, with many taking selfies after voting. This trend was particularly visible among younger voters, who shared their experiences on social media, adding to the festive atmosphere at polling stations.
Election officials in the Darrang-Udalguri district expressed satisfaction with the high voter turnout and the smooth conduct of the election. They emphasized the importance of these elections in shaping the future of the nation and thanked voters for their active participation.
As the second phase concluded, attention now turns to the remaining phases of the Lok Sabha elections, with the hope that voter turnout continues to reflect the same level of civic engagement and enthusiasm.
