Tarun Gogoi dead

Guwahati: Veteran Congress leader and former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is dead. He passed away in the evening at Guwahati Medical College Hospital where he was undergoing treatment of post COVID complications.

His condition deteriorated on Saturday as his organs did not properly respond to the line of treatment.

Sensation in Chaparmukh

NAGAON: An unidentified body struck no less sensation in Chaparmukh in Nagaon district on Thursday. Local residents in the area spotted the body floating over the river Kopili which bore injury marks on the head. Then they informed it to the local police who came and fished out it. Investigation is in progress. Police have been trying to ascertain the identity of the body.

Kokrajhar shops gutted in fire

KOKRAJHAR: Properties worth ₹3 lakh reduced to ashes when a devastating fire gutted two shops in Kokrajhar on Wednesday night. The fire which is believed to have originated from an electric transformer shifted to a nearby LPG shop which spread to a bicycle mart. Two tenders were deployed but by then both the shops were gutted in the fire. The extent of damage has yet to be ascertained. An investigation is going on.

DUDHNOI: A local court in Dudhnoi granted bail to Akhil Gogoi three days after the police arrested him in a case and brought him from Dibrugarh. The Chief Judicial Magistrate on Tuesday heard his bail plea and granted it refusing to read the police who arrested him. Gogoi would be released on Wednesday from the Central Jail where he was sent on Sunday. Strayed rhino escapes poaching bid in river banks

SIMANTA HAZARIKA LAKHIMPUR: A strayed rhino from the Kaziranga National Park has been striking no less panic in the Jamuguri area in Lakhimpur district for the last couple of days forcing the forest officials to follow the animal to ensure its safety. But the one horn animal sustained mild injury because of an abortive bid on its life by poachers.
