Tarun Gogoi dead

Guwahati: Veteran Congress leader and former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is dead. He passed away in the evening at Guwahati Medical College Hospital where he was undergoing treatment of post COVID complications.

His condition deteriorated on Saturday as his organs did not properly respond to the line of treatment.

GOLAGHAT:The Golaghat police achieved a huge breakthrough into a number of major theft cases when they recovered electronic materials worth lakhs of rupees in the town on Saturday. Acting on a tip off, a police team conducted a search operation in the Municipality Market on the Old Jail Road where these pilfered items were recovered. These include six huge sound systems. No one has so far been arrested. Investigation is going on.

JORHAT:Union minister Nitin Gadkari is ailing. Gadkari, who is on a two days visit to the state fell ill suddenly as he was attending a function to unveil the ₹237 crore project of the Brahmaputra Board in Majuli. When chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal was addressing the meeting, the Union water resources development minister complained of uneasyness on the stage. GUWAHATI: The Asom Sahitya Sabha is all set to get Dr Paramananda Rajbangsi as its president. The state's largest literary body conducted a ballot voting recently at its headquarters in Jorhat where Rajbangshi topped the choice of the electorates. The electorates further voted Dr Hemanta Kumar Baruah as vice president while Padum Rajkhowa has been elected as the principal Secretary of the organization. TINSUKIA: Security forces claimed to have apprehended a hardcore ULFA(I) rebel in Tinsukia district who was believed to have been camping in a remote village to extort money. Acting on a tip off, army, police and para military forces raided a hamlet in Pangery where Rajiv Moran, a dreaded rebel was arrested. Police further seized a pistol from his possession.
