Jyoti-Rabha and modern Song workshop concludes
NAMRUP: A 4 -day-long Jyoti Rabha and modern song workshop concluded in Namrup Music College auditorium on Wednesday .The workshop is organised by Namrup Music College in synchronisation with Tezpur Jyoti Bharati . It was held in college auditorium from July 8 in which around 50 students took part under guidance of Sri Alimpon Choudhury . The concluding session was inaugurated by Rohini Kanta Sarmah BVFCL ( H.R.) DGM, attended by BVFCL Chief Administrative officer, Pranab Kumar Bhattacharjee as a guest of honour. The workshop was conducted with the aim of promoting the classic songs among upcoming generation . In the concluding session Alimpon Choudhary graced as resource person. The participants were also distributed certificates.

NAMRUP: Tension prevails in Namrup a day after a group of villagers handed over a youth charging him with raping a girl three days back while some others have mounted pressure on the police to free him calling it a conspiracy. Around 100 people from No 1 Borkeremia village detained a youth from a nearby village alleging that he on March 28 raped a girl as she was enjoying a local show at night. Identified as Diganta Bhuyan was later handed over to police who referred the victim to the hospital for medical test. NAMRUP: Despite a stepped up anti counter insurgency operation, rebels have been moving in Dibrugarh unleashing terror among a section of the people in the form of extortion. The police have capture an ULFA(I) rebel during an operation on Friday. Acting on a tip off, a team of police raided a house in Bongalgaon where top rebel Gunjan Asom was picked up. Police further claimed to have seized a crude bomb from his possession. Interrogation is going on to extract more information on the current movement of the rebels in the upper Assam districts.
Namrup: Hundreds of students in Namrup took out a torch rally on Monday evening alleging the move for closure of the Assam Women University in Jorhat. Jointly organized by Namrup and Dibrugarh AASU units, rally started from AASU office near Sonari Tiniali and concluded in Sarmah Tiniali where the protestors shouted slogans warning the government not to downgrade or close down the varsity. Namrup: A blood donation camp drew huge response when Bharat Vikash Porikhad , Lions club Namrup and Gorkha Student Union and Assam Medical College Hospital jointly organized at Mini PHC Namrup on Sunday. Namrup: Army’sDAO Division based in Sonari claimed to have held an ULFA(I) linkman on Saturday.Identified as Bijoy Lama, a local resident of Namtola, he was held during an operation who has been working like a messanger between NSCN-K and ULFA(I) operating along the Assam-Nagaland border.Police further claimed to have seized a Magzine of AK -47 rifle along with 30 rounds bullets , crude bomb , one letter , 200 tablets of SPASMOPROXY used as drugs and ₹ 63000 /- cash. Namrup: A vital road is set to get a fresh lease of life in Namrup much to the major relief for around 5,000 local residents in Jyoti Nagar Pevar area. Namrup Town Committee Chairman Neetu Sonowal Buragohain started the construction work of the 305.00 metre road from Fedar Ali to Dilli Dowanina Gaon at a brief function on Thursday which will cost Rs 10.44 lakhs. Buragohain said, “We will work to uplift the entire area. I do urge people of the area to keep a close watch on the contractor and his quality of the work.” BJP State Executive Ranjit Boruah, party leaders Suren Gogoi, Bhabha Gogoi also attended the function.
Namrup: Noted social worker and local AGP leader Debokanta Baruah died a sudden death leaving a pall of gloom in the entire area on Tuesday. The end came in the wee hours at the BVFCL Hospital where he was admitted as he complained heart ailment. His partymen along with many local residents paid their last respect before the mortal remains consigned to flames in the afternoon. Local AGP, BJP leaders and prominent people at a meeting heaped huge praise on Baruah and condoled his sudden death. Baruah is survived by his wife, three daughters abd a son.
Namrup: Preparations are afoot for holding the All Assam Biennial Kalita Janagusthi Conference in Guwahati from March 24. The two days summit is holding at the Bir Bhagadutta Kshetra Narengi Development Committee Play ground. NAMRUP: Police and army claimed to have captured a hardcore ULFA-I rebel during a combing operation in Sonari who was among those threatening a section of coal traders in Nimonagarh and Tiru.Acting on a tip off army troops based at Maibela and Sonari police raided the Hotel Seven Sister where they captured the rebel to be identified as Prasanta Chutia alias Tankeswar.Police further seized a 9 MM pistol, live bullets, a map along with some other incriminating materials from his possession who hails from Lobginori area. Interrogation is going on to extract more information on the rebel activities in the area.
