The Nagaon District cell of National Food Security Mission(NFSM) organised a “Field Day” on SRI (System of Rice Intensification) on Boro Rice at Salaguri village near Dhing on 25th of May, 2010. A group of 25 farmers of the locality has been cultivating the Boro Rice by SRI method in 40 bighas of land where they could harvest as high as 44 md/bigha (13.2t/ha) of crop yield. At the very outset, Mr. Tarun Hazarika, Agril Development Officer of Batadrava circle welcomed the distinguished guests, invitees and farmers. Dr. Bipul Sarma, Agril Development Officer of the Samuagaon Circle explained the objectives of organizing the Field Day. Addressing the gathering of around 150 farmers, Dr. T.P.Saikia, Programme Co-ordinator, KVK, Nagaon urged upon the farmers to adopt the improved techniques for a better and quality yield of crops. He also explained the objectives of KVK and requested the farmers to utilize the services of KVK for overall development of their livelihood. The gathering was also addressed by Dr. B. Borgohain, SDAO, Koliabor. Three participating farmers also spoke on this occasion and exchanged their experiences in scientific cultivation of Boro rice by SRI method. They also acknowledged the technical help rendered by the officers of Agriculture Department time to time & expressed their satisfaction for implementation of the programme at their locality. The meeting was presided over by Mr. Sankar Chakraborty, District Agriculture Officer, Nagaon. A Field visit to demonstrated crop fields was also organized to have on the spot assessment of the new technology and to share the experiences of participating farmers with others. The programme ended with offering of vote of thanks by Mr. P.Buragohain, Nodal Officer of NFSM, Nagaon.
Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Assam Agricultural University, Nagaon and Indian Institute of Crop Processing Technology, Regional Centre Guwahati under the Ministry of Food Processing Industries, GOI have organised a day long training programme at Nagaon on 12.12.2011. About 60 farmers (both man and women) from 7 villages of the district have attended the programme where topics related to food processing in horticultural crops were thoroughly discussed. At the beginning of the training programme, Dr Mrinal Saikia, Programme Coordinator, KVK, Nagaon has welcomed the trainees and delivered a lecture on post harvest handling and value addition of potato and other tuber crops.
