KVK Nagaon observe field-day


Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Nagaon has organised a Field Day programme under Technology Showcasing of winter(Sali) rice seed production on November 29 at Dakarghat village, Nagaon. Altogether 130 farmers from Dakaghat area has attended the day long programme where Dr G. N. Hazarika, Director of Research (Agri) and Dr H. C. Battacharyya, Director of Extension Education from AAU, Jorhat, Dr D. P. Baruah, Chief Scientist (I/C), RARS, Shilongani, Mr R. Das, JDA, Central Zone and Mr A.B. Khan, DAO, Nagaon from Department of Agriculture, Dr B. Barman, OSD, Dhubri College of Agriculture, AAU and Dr T. P. Saikia, Principal Scientist, RARS, Shillongani attended the meeting. At the beginning, the participants of the meeting has condole the demise of Dr Mamoni Roisom Goswami with prayer and observing one minute silence. Sri N. Bora, a retired teacher from the Dakarghat village has presided over the meeting followed by lighting of lamp by the dignitaries. Dr Mrinal Saikia, Programme Coordinator, KVK, Nagaon has delivered the welcome address with details of Technology Showcasing programme of kharif and rabi season at the Nagaon district and explained about the objective of the Field day. Dr G. N. Hazarika, in his speech urged up on the participating farmers of the Technology Showcasing programme to take utmost care in maintenance of seed quality while going for seed production programme and hope that all the farmers will be benefited with such programme. Dr H. C. Bhattacharyya, in his speech highlighted some success stories due to adoption of multiple cropping systems in different districts of Assam. He has assured all the farmers of the locality for any technological guidance required for adoption of high intensity cropping through the KVK of the district.


Joint Director of Agriculture, Central Zone, has assured to explore the installation of STW’s in the area so that the copping intensity could be increased from present mono-cropping. DAO, Nagaon also expressed his willingness to provide all necessary help from the department to the needy farmers to uplift their farm income through adoption of improved practices. Mr A. Kotoky, Area Manager, IFFCO also delivered speech on various schemes available for the farmers.


A crop cutting was done by the District Statistical Officer, Nagaon in the Technology Showcasing plot and a seed yield of 18 mounds/bigha (i. e. 5.40 t/ha) was recorded in case of paddy variety Ranjit. Everybody present in the meeting has agreed that the yield was found to be quite satisfactory under rainfed situation.


Sri Dibyajyoti Saikia, Sri Ghanakanta Hazarika and Sri Tilok Sarmah, participant farmers of the technology showcasing programme of this area expressed about their experiences in the sali rice cultivation.


In his presidential address Sri N. Bora has requested all the farmers to come forward with full strength to increase the production of crop in their fields and urge up on them to take the help of Department of Agriculture hereafter.


Mr J. Dutta, Farm Manager, KVK, Nagaon delivered the vote of thanks and the programme ended with full success.
