Actor joins TMC

Noted film actor Biju Phukan joined Trinamool Congress in presence of Mamata Banerjee at a function in Guwahati on Wednesday.

Phukan, who once contested the assembly polls from AGP told the TMC boss that he was prepared to fight the polls.

People thronged in thousands at the sarusajai Stadium to attend the TMC rally where Mamata Banerjee drew appreciation.

Ms. Banerjee clarified, while addressing a party rally in Guwahati, that Trinamool Congress was a part of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance government when it was headed by Atal Bihari Vajpayee but her party would not support any party that incites communal violence and hatred on the basis of religion, caste, creed or community.

Kokrajhar: Normal government transport services remained paralyzed in BTAD areas on Thursday when the  employees of the Bodoland Transport Services started an indefinite strike raising a slew of demands. With banners and play cards, hundreds of employees from Bodoland transport department staged sit in demanding steps to regularise their jobs, hike in salaries. The employees slammed the transport department for not taking  any measures to meet their long standing demands of the emoloyees. GUWAHATI: The Gauhati High Court on Thursday has asked all district authorities to set up fast tract court to deal with the incidents of sexual misconduct against women. The court issued orders to the district session courts a day after chief minister Sarbanabda Sonowal in a letter to the chief Justice urged him to fast track these cases to expedite the Justice delivery system. Sonowal, who held video conference with DCs and SPs to speed up the charge sheet filing process in the courts to firmly deal with the guilty.

GUWAHATI: A special court in Guwahati on Wednesday sent six officers to 14 days police remand after they were arrested in connection with the APSC scam. Special judge before whom they were produced allowed the investigating police officers to take them in their demand for investigation.
