On the occasion of Golden Jubilee celebration of SSB, 37th BN.SSB Mangaldai conducted a programme under Perception Management Samajik Chetna Abhiyan for the welfare of population of border areas in Rajagarh area from July 8 to 12. During this programme various activities like study tour for border youths to historical places of Himachal Pradesh, free computer training for 22 border youths, free training to 40 farmers of border areas on agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry and bee-keeping etc. Free medical civic action programme, free veterinary civic action, distribution of high quality seeds to poor farmers, stores like Dragon lights, solar lights, sports items, construction of 3 bus waiting sheds, one water tank besides conducting foot ball & volley ball tournaments and cultural programme for promotion of sport and local folk cultural etc. were also undertaken by SSB. Kamali Basumatari,MLA,Paneri attended the programme as the chief guest.She appreciated the role and initiative taken by SSB 37th Bn Mangaldai for undertaking such extremely beneficial projects for poor people of border areas. She distributed above mentioned stores amongst poor people and prizes to winners of foot ball & volley ball tournaments. Similarly certificates were also distributed to the participants who have undergone training on agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry and computer etc.

During medical civic action programme 356 patients were treated by SSB doctors. Similarly 2200 nos livestocks were treated by veterinary doctors during veterinary civic action programme and medicines worth Rs.65,000/- distributed free of cost. B.S. Jaswal,CO,37th BN said that SSB had undertaken special drive for recruitment of youths from border districts during June-2013. SSB is also going to sponsor border youths for vocational training and their placements in various industries through reputed NGOs. Prominent citizens of local area expressed their gratitudes to SSB for not only taking care of their security needs but also for undertaking community welfare projects.

 The carcass of a twelve years old wild elephant (Makhna)found this morning on the bed of Samrang river near India-Bhutan international border.It has caused concern among nature loving people of the district.Eye witnesses said the elephant could have been poisoned somewhere else the previous night.Frequent deaths of wild elephants have now been a serious concern in the district.Udalguri District Journalists Union and Green Society,Udalguri expressed concern at the incident and request forest department to take appropriate action.

One Lawa Majhi (45) was killed by a loner wild elephant at Bormukali near Nonai forest range office in Udalguri district last night at 8 pm.The person was coming home from market while came on the way of two loners.So far 84 people have been killed by wild elephants during last five years in the district against the deaths of 34 wild elephants.
