Very happy to know that the association is continuing to do well and growing. I had the privilege of being the President of the association around 1981-82 when I was a Professor of IIT-Madras ( now Chennai). During Assam Movement, we published the Brahmaputra Beckons. Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Saturday paid tributes to freedom fighter Swahid Kushal Konwar on the occasion of his 70th death anniversary at Nehru Park in Guwahati. Heatwave toll goes up to 11 on Thursday after three persons person died of heatstroke in Goalpara on Thursday. Before that two persons died in Bokakhat and Gohpur. A street dweller was killed in the heat on Wednesday. The body was found under the Ulubari flyover. Apart from him, a 70-year-old man, Sibulal Rabidas, died in the heatwave at Lalamukh Tea Garden in Hailakandi district. A 65-year-old man died of heatstroke in the Labourputa area of Cachar district. In Nagaon district, one person died due to the heat. But there is no sig of any relief on Thursday. Guwahati is set to break 33 year old record on Thursday.

The regional meteorological centre in Guwahati recorded a maximum
temperature of 38.8°C on Wednesday. It predicts hardly any relief

administration has instructed schools across Guwahati to remain shut
on Thursday and Friday.
