Very happy to know that the association is continuing to do well and growing. I had the privilege of being the President of the association around 1981-82 when I was a Professor of IIT-Madras ( now Chennai). During Assam Movement, we published the Brahmaputra Beckons. The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) has announced that party General Secretary Aminul Islam would be its candidate for the second seat in the forthcoming Rajya Sabha polls in Assam. Guwahati police have arrested a Maoist activist in the city on Saturday. Known as Prasanna Rabha, the youth was picked up from Udalbarka during a combing operation in the area four days after his sister was arrested. Police claimed him to be close associate of central committee member Aklanta Rabha who was arrested last month.
The Board of Secondary Education announced the results of the High School Leaving Certificate and the Assam High Madrassa Examinations on Friday. Altogether 2,59,149 candidates emerged successful out of 3,66,476. Its high alert across the state as cyclone Mahasen is likely to hit the north-eastern states during the next 12 hours. Areas near the Brahmaputra are on high alert and have been closed for the next 2 days and fishermen have been restricted in these areas. Control rooms have been set up in several district headquarters to help the victims if required. Maoist activists are spreading in the nook and corner of Guwahati. Jalukbari police on Thursday claimed to have intercepted a lady Maoist cadre in the city in the wee hours. Identified as Kabita Rabha, the women cadre was arrested from Udalbakra area in the city. A CD along with some incriminating document were seized from her possession.
