Very happy to know that the association is continuing to do well and growing. I had the privilege of being the President of the association around 1981-82 when I was a Professor of IIT-Madras ( now Chennai). During Assam Movement, we published the Brahmaputra Beckons. CPI leader Sitaram Yechuri on Thursday appealed to the people not to be wooed by Congress and BJP in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.Addressing a press conference in Guwahati, the CPM politburo member called Congress and BJP two sides of a coin in terms of mis governance and corruption.He said that BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi is doing communal politics in the run up to the Lok Sabha polls.

Security forces seem to have stepped up offensive against KPLT militants in Karbi Anglong district a day after a minor boy sustained injury in the cross fire at Howraghat.According to information, during a combing operation army and CRPF jawans arrested three militants of the Karbi outfit from Mantilla area in the wee hours. Apart from the trio, security forces have captured a KPLT linkman from the area.  A minor boy sustained serious injury at an incident of cross fire between KPLT militants and security forces in Karbi Anglong district on Wednesday.
In a huge respite for KMSS, Hareswar Kalita and Nurul Ali have come out of the Guwahati Central jail on Thursday a day after the Guwahati High Court granted bail to both of them.Both Kalita and Ali procured bail on Wednesday nearly a month after police arrested them from their residence in connection with the sensational self immolation case in Dispur.
Guwahati police are all set to produce Akhil Gogoi before the CJM court on Thursday.According to information, the KMSS president would be produced before the court in the afternoon after the expiry of 14 days custody in the connection with three cases.Tight security is in place at the Kamrup CJM court where KMSS activists are set to stage dharna on Gogoi’s way to the court.
