BPF declares candidates

BPF has declared names of 14 nominations including three new face to contest in the ensuing Assam Assembly election scheduled early by next year at a central working committee (CWC) meeting of the party at Barama in Baksa district on Saturday. 

BPF supremo Hagrama Mohilary, who is also BTC chief declared the names of  nominations which included Majendra Narzary (Gossaigaon), Banendra Kumar Mushahary (Gauripur), Pramila Rani Brahma (Kokrajhar east), Chandan Brahma (Sidli), Kamalsing Narzary (Bijni), Emanuel Mushahary (Tamulpur), Maneswar Brahma (Barama), Thaneswar Basumatary (Chapaguri), Kamali Basumatary (Paneri), Rihan Daimary (Udalguri), Charan Boro (Mazbat), Mrinal Deka (Rangia), Moheswar Boro (Kalaigaon) and Pradip Debnath (Sorbhag).

Mohilary said that his party has geared up and prepared all kinds of strategies to contest the ensuing election . The party in its first list included three new faces from Mazbat, Sorbhag, Rangia. He has expressed his confidence of winning large number of seats in the state

'The remaining seats to be contested from the party all over tgd stste would be announced shortly after sitting party executive meeting', Mohilary added.

Joint operation in Dima Hasao against separatists

A joint operation was carried out on Aug 31 by Army unit based at Maibang and Assam Police personnel of PS Maibang, in village Mongjang near Hajadisa in Dima Hasao District. The operation resulted in elimination of one high ranking, hardcore NSCN(IM) cadre and recovery of three hand grenades and seven fired cases of AK ammunition. The body of the insurgent along with recoveries has been handed over to Police at Police Station Moibang.

This operation resulted in targeting the group of NSCN(IM) cadres who were responsible for carrying out extortion activities along Assam – Nagaland border. The NSCN(IM) cadre killed was the leader of the group responsible for kidnapping of four Dimasa villagers on 11 Aug 2012 from village Prasadimdik and Bongkhai under Maibang PS.
Close cooperation between Haflong based Assam Rifles Sector Headquarter and District Police Headquarter, Dima Hasao has resulted in successful operations along Assam Nagaland border in Dima Hasao District. This initiative has brought immediate relief to villagers residing in these areas.

Carcasses floating on receding waters at KNP

Devastating flood waters continue to show receding trend. But the blues of the displaced birds and animals in the Kaziranga National Park and other sanctuaries are still surging.

Carcasses are spotted floating in the famed national Kazirnga National park, Manah and Pobitora sanctuaries.
The carcass of a full grown female rhino was found in the Agortoli range on Wednesday. The horn was missing. But the authorities claimed it a natural death and that the horn was found under flood waters. A section of the local residents have it called it an incident of poaching. The forest guards found two more rhino carcasses from the Kohora range.

According to information, bodies of 441 animals, including seven rhinos and nine deer found in the flood. Two rhinos died on poaching when they tried to escape the flood waters. Ninety four animals have been rescued.

Culling in progress in Dhubri and Kokrajhar

For the second day, the rapid response team are carrying out poultry culling in some parts of Kokrajhar and Dhubri district. The culling is going on in an area of 5 kilometer having as many as 90,000 poultry. Officials here say these will be culled as per the instructions from the Centre. The areas falling in this 5 kilometer area are Kochugaon block in Kokrajhar district, Agomoni block in Dhubri district. As many as 35,000 poultry are there in Dhubri district while Kokrajhar district has 54,000 which are to be culled soon. Altogether 2,200 poultry have been culled in Dhubri o0n Monday while the number of culled poultry in Kokrajhar district is 448.

Speaking to Assam Times, poultry owners here say they are not satisfied with the Rs 40 compensation against each of the full grown and Rs 10 for the small ones culled poultry.
