Assam players won golds at the International Invitation Karate Championship 2013 held at University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka on June 9.

The winners are Manjit Dihingia – 2 Golds, Raju Kachari – 1 Gold, Dipu Tanti – 1 Gold and Sushmita Paul – 1 Gold.

The BJP-led Assam government will file a case against Sharjeel Imam who allegedly made a number of highly objectionable comments publicly which was aired by many television channels off late. The ex-JNU student in a videw aired by Republic TV was heard saying “They will curve out Assam from India”. He allegedly delivered this objectionable speech while addressing a huge group of anti-CAA protesters in Saheen Bagh, Delhi. Manas Konwar, executive president of the Chatramukti Sangram Samity, the students' wing of the KMSS, has been arrested on Thursday by the NIA. According to some information a sleuth of the National Investigation Agency picked up the Chatramukti Sangram Samity leader. He has been arrested for his alleged involvement with Maoist, sources revealed. Earlier, the NIA arrested Akhil Gogoi, leader of the KMSS on similar charges. Currently, he has been kept behind bars. Guwahati: City based Journalist fraternity on Thursday appealed to the Assam government for launching a scheme to support the bereaved families of working journalists of the state who died on duty. Senior journalist Ajit Kr. Bhuyan has stepped down from Guwahati based sattelite news channel Prag News as it's chief editor. Bhuyan, who has been playing a major role in mass mobilisation for the on-going anti-CAA protest in the state, on Saturday formally submitted his resignation. Bhuyan, who has been active in journalism for the last three decade, is the founder editor of Asomiya Pratidin, the largest circulated Assamese newspaper. He was also the founding editor of Aji.
A massive rally under the aegis of the Assam Artists' Society was organised in Guwahati on Sunday against the Citizenship Amendment Act. Thousands of people besides a huge number of artists gathered at the Sudhakantha Dr. Bhupen Hazarika's memorial at Jalukbari in the city and took part in a protest meet there. Pro-talks ULFA leader Jiten Dutta, who played a role in spearheading anti-Citizenship Amendment Act protest in the state, was released from judicial custody on Sunday. Dutta was arrested on December 12 by the Tinsukia police on charges of inciting the masses to stage protest against the controversial Act. Later, he was remanded to judical custody by a court in Tinsukia. Since then he was lodged in the Tinsukia central jail. On Saturday the pro-talks ULFA leader was granted bail by a court.
