An Assam police team is leaving West Bengal to seek the remand of Sudipta Sen a day after the Saradha Group chief was brought to Kolkata.
According to sources, the team would interrogate Sen in connection with the chit-fund scam. He said three staff-members of Saradha Group were arrested in 2012 in connection with a cheating case in Jorhat.
So far, 222 cases have been registered against 128 chit fund companies in the State. A Special Investigation Team probing the cases has so far filed charge sheets against 42 persons and 15 companies in 17 cases. So far, 303 persons have been arrested. Nearly Rs. 94 lakh in cash has been seized and amount of Rs. 24 crore frozen. Police have seized 106 bank accounts have been frozen while steps are being taken for the attachment of a number of landed properties including 99 bighas of land and buildings which have been identified.
The companies now under scanner are Saradha Group, Rose Valley, Unipay 2U, Jeevan Suraksha, Prayag, Abyss Assam Group Co, Basil International Ltd., Alliance Vision Marketing Pvt. Ltd and Daffodils Group of Companies.
The brief silence is over. BTAD areas seem to have erupted in violence forcing the authority to clamp curfew on Thursday. Violence took its worse turn during the 24 hour lower Assam bandh on Wednesday demanding exclusion of Non Boro areas from BTAD. A string of group clashes marred the bandh call leaving two dead and several others injured. The clashes broke out in Baska when a group of people forced some shops to open. These have forced the administration to step up security in the entire Baska district.

Participating at a tributery function under the Ganesguri flyover, chief minister Tarun Gogoi urged the people to stand united against terrorism. Bad news for nature lovers. A wild elephant found dead of electrocution on Tuesday night. The tragic incident took place at Sonari in Sivasagar at night when a heard of wild elephants came to the are in quest io search of food. A small group of these elephant came to Joboka tea estate where the incident took place. The carcass was spotted in the morning. But it took nearly 5 hours for the forest officials to reach the spot.
After a brief lull, violence erupts again in BTAD areas. A protest in the form of 24 hour Assam bandh called by the no Bodos demanding their safety turned violent on Wednesday wee hours. Despite a beefed up security measures, bandh supporters set on fire a truck in Gossaigaon on the road. A non Bodo student body has called for the 24 hour bandh in protest against one of their leaders.
Three persons were killed and atleast 20 others have been injured when a passenger bus collided its head on a tanker in Nagaon district. The incident took place on the National Highway 37 in Roha at 2 am, where a Guwahati bound passenger bus from Tinsukia collided head on a standred tanker. The of the passengers died on the spot while the injured have been rushed to the hospital.

Crucial document relating to transaction of several crores along dozens personal computers have been ravaged when the Dispur branch of Canara Bank caught fire on Sunday. The fire broke out at 2pm and fire tenderpr arrived in the spot as soon as the smoke were seen bellowing from the first floor of the bank beside the Ganesguri flyover. Initial report suggested that the fire broke out due to electric short circuit which completely ravaged the fist floor. The opposition Asom Gana Parishad has given a 12 hour bandh call on Monday in protest against the Congress government's failure to deal with price rise and law and order breakdown. AGP leaders told assamtimes that the statewide bandh would come into force from 5 on Monday morning to end at 5 in the evening. On the other hand, the opposition party has exempted the essential services.
Chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Saturday reviewed the state's law and order situation at a meeting with top police and civil officials. Police got remand of 4 accused in the sensational Azara case where two women were gangraped and killed on October. Chief judicial magistrate remanded all the four accused for 7 days when they were produced before the court on Saturday afternoon.
