An Assam police team is leaving West Bengal to seek the remand of Sudipta Sen a day after the Saradha Group chief was brought to Kolkata.
According to sources, the team would interrogate Sen in connection with the chit-fund scam. He said three staff-members of Saradha Group were arrested in 2012 in connection with a cheating case in Jorhat.
So far, 222 cases have been registered against 128 chit fund companies in the State. A Special Investigation Team probing the cases has so far filed charge sheets against 42 persons and 15 companies in 17 cases. So far, 303 persons have been arrested. Nearly Rs. 94 lakh in cash has been seized and amount of Rs. 24 crore frozen. Police have seized 106 bank accounts have been frozen while steps are being taken for the attachment of a number of landed properties including 99 bighas of land and buildings which have been identified.
The companies now under scanner are Saradha Group, Rose Valley, Unipay 2U, Jeevan Suraksha, Prayag, Abyss Assam Group Co, Basil International Ltd., Alliance Vision Marketing Pvt. Ltd and Daffodils Group of Companies.
After a brief lull, violence erupts again in BTAD areas. A protest in the form of 24 hour Assam bandh called by the no Bodos demanding their safety turned violent on Wednesday wee hours. Despite a beefed up security measures, bandh supporters set on fire a truck in Gossaigaon on the road. A non Bodo student body has called for the 24 hour bandh in protest against one of their leaders.
Three persons were killed and atleast 20 others have been injured when a passenger bus collided its head on a tanker in Nagaon district. The incident took place on the National Highway 37 in Roha at 2 am, where a Guwahati bound passenger bus from Tinsukia collided head on a standred tanker. Crucial document relating to transaction of several crores along dozens personal computers have been ravaged when the Dispur branch of Canara Bank caught fire on Sunday. The fire broke out at 2pm and fire tenderpr arrived in the spot as soon as the smoke were seen bellowing from the first floor of the bank beside the Ganesguri flyover. Police got remand of 4 accused in the sensational Azara case where two women were gangraped and killed on October. Chief judicial magistrate remanded all the four accused for 7 days when they were produced before the court on Saturday afternoon. Guwahati police on Friday afternoon brought the four accused in the Azara case to the Panbazar police to intensify the probe into it. They were brought to the police station after a priliminary medical. Marathon interrogation is going on. All of them would be produced before the chief judicial magistrate seeking police remand. According to source, the accused confessed to have gangraped the two girls at a house on October 22.
